Launching over a moderate steep beach dumper requires surely to drag the boat over the bummer – but getting close enough to be there when it’s not breaking is the critical timing. And then drag your kayak far out enough with some hard push and jump on without your weight of the body kicks the stern so much down that it hooks on the beach. If you’re hooked, you’re lost, as the next dumper will crash right on you…

So far the theory. In practice, as usual, wait for the right moment…and not try to push over the critical area at the last second of a longer lull…Peter just tried that, and if I’d not held him back on his stern after the first dumper of the new set broke on him and washed him back uphill, he’d have been caught by the next bigger one also…up and down, still sitting in the kayak, like in a washing machine…

But I shouted him to get out again, and to wait…he waited just one dumper, and thought he could now push over…somehow managed to push *through* the just again breaking one rather than *over* a lull, and luckily was gone. A relatively easy launch made complicated…

I was by myself, and just had a short problem to keep the boat straight on a wash up the beach while trying to get close enough. But after straightening it out, I could push out in a calm second with no problem.

Really, you think after thousands of surf launchings and -landings, you should make it at least 95% safe…no way…it is always a new constellation…

There was no wind early this morning, and it was deadly boring to paddle over a wider bay. I was calculating again and again the upcoming distances and landing options combined with our fresh water resources, and we both eventually agreed to stop today already on the beautiful wild looking Punta Huaro, which had a surely dead calm north side to land on. Puerto Casma sounded too unsafe for our ideas, and it was blurry again on Google Earth.

This also means, we have to make an almost 70 km day tomorrow to Chimbote to refill water -or to stop on a beach earlier and to refill during the next day and to keep on going then.

But today we really liked to enjoy our half day off on a wild beach! Just as we landed, what did we spot? A single person sitting on a corner under a small shelter…can’t we nowhere be fully alone??? About ten minutes later, a motorbike came down from the peninsula. the driver was in a wet suit, obviously having been diving for mussels or such by himself. luckily he collected the other guy, and both they drove off…hurray!

It was like my shirt and pans could use a rinse, and I jumped into the chilly but calm water with all stuff on. Out came a rinsed and stripped and fully refreshed Freya! This is balsam for the soul…I enjoyed to get dry by the sun, while Peter enjoyed a shave…

Our planned peninsula walk was beautiful, but surely we were fighting with a lack of energy on walking! Sitting for over three months now almost all days…it was nice to see the water with many seals and penguins from the top!

In one bay, we unintentionally chased up a half dead seal…he was really looking like an alive skull, and surely was close to join the many other dead ones here in this bay…sorry…
