Lowlights: Back to the shallows!

Landing: Sandy river reef beach

Loc: Small village before Acarau

Dist: 56,1 km
Start: 5:00 End: 15:40

The landscape changed slowly, now it’s back to the shallow river systems. More green on the coast, even some mangroves at the river entrances! So did change the fishing boats. Not those stand-on-top surfboard like wide floats with the symmetrical triangle sail any more, rather real hollow boats again.

Many shallows to negotiate, the breakers on those mostly wide areas I know already – just go through and watch a bit. They are soft and not much trashy. Just don’t get them too wrong and you are good and save many detours.

At the end of the day – surely I didn’t want to stop too early to make it to Jeriquaquara tomorrow – I left the deep water behind me and now barly found a beach at now high tide which would be still possible to get out from tomorrow 2hrs later in the outgoing tide. One village was the option, despite also having a wide shallow sandy reef upfront. I may have to drag a bit tomorrow…
