Thanks!” type=”image” alt=”IMG_0882.JPG” ]

Highlights: I got picked up by my Sao Luis friends, thanks!
Lowlights: Rain all day
Loc: Subauma
Acc: Emiliano’s house

The original plan was to get picked up already last night, my main very helpful contact in Brazil Christian Fuchs mailed me around 4 pm “Paulo is already on the way”, and for that I took my tent down and moved my gear and kayak from the beach to the main road side where I could be found and picked more easy. This was quick!

This actually translated in Brazil to receiving another e-mail which said “we are now ready to leave Salvador at 6pm” which translated again to “now we will leave at 7.30 pm” and once more in the last e-mail to “we leave now by 9 pm – we would arrive by midnight”…guys, I can also wait until tomorrow, no problem!

I simply put up my tent again after calming my pick up crew down they should not put too much pressure on themselves to make it this night, I will be simply staying one more night in the tent! Thanks at all to everyone organize my pick up! There is nothing working on my trip without great friends!

This time my tent sat right on the road’s edge, but this village had not really much traffic in this corner, I was a bit hidden, and all stayed calm. I actually had a good night’s sleep, at midnight it started to rain, and around 4 am it was down pouring heavily, just the time when I use to get up! Good timing…I turned around once more, first time slid into my sleeping bag and felt cozy all over all morning until at 7.30 am my pick up crew really came! Thanks to Paulo, Daniel and his wife Jessica to do the effort to get me! Jessica even spoke good German, Daniel loaded my kayak on his truck and Paulo me and my gear. They brought me to Lauro de Freitas to Emiliano’s house, via some highways with a bunch of tiny swing bridges. I was already wondering what they were for, barely able to maybe take a human? They were actually built for*monkeys*crossing the highway to get from one side of the lush green jungle to the other! Amazing…I just imagine a monkey just promenading on that bridge while the dense traffic is flowing under neath…free circus show! Or the monkey hangs himself up on his tail, smiling directly into the windscreen of a truck driver…lol!

Emiliano’s house turned out to be the old family home now used as a holiday house, it was quite large with an own pool and back yard, and I had it just for myself! What a luxury accommodation! Thanks a lot to Emiliano and his family to let me stay there! I had my own room with a/c, fast internet and could clean all my gear outside and use the pool. No the worst place to be! 🙂

I washed my broken kayak, and it got a first look tonight by Gustavo and Hama, who owns an outrigger club in Salvador. Gustavo, also speaking good English, was confident he could do the big repair job properly, as he is also in charge to make their own outriggers. Thanks a lot to take that burden off my shoulders!

My ankle was already much better, and after a nice dinner with Emiliano and his wife at a local sea food restaurant, having a special shrimp dish which I quite enjoyed I could close the day peacefully in my nice room. It feels so good to be eventually sand free and dry…it was still raining almost all day today! Perfect time to be off the water…

THANKS FOR VOTING FOR ME TO WIN THE WORLD PADDLE AWARDS!
