Day 273, Saturday, 17.10.2009

Recharging the batteries…

No paddling today, too much headwinds, 15-20 kn, to make it worth the effort. And I urgently needed a day for office work! Luckily there is good mobile phone reception right here at Wharton Beach!

It looks like Sunday will be the same, so I keep on posting tomorrow. Monday and Tuesday will be hopefully good paddling days again!

What did I do today? Instead of enjoying the day with a nice walk or drive around to enjoy the scenery, I had to type uploads and e-mails, edited pictures, checked on Google Earth and maps and charts and called home…but at least we found time to buy two ice creams each at the Duke of Orleans campsite shop!

It was physically relaxing, but I’d love to be a “normal” tourist again one day…

Amazing trip, truly amazing, but where are the solar panels? Could be on kayak/van to keep things freshly charged all the time – w/o adding much weight, and beeing dependat on gas for generator.

Chuck H.

Brian — That generator would be pretty difficult to squeeze into a kayak hatch, and is undoubtedly part of the supplies and equipment carried in the van that Greg Bethune is driving. He (and the van) have been providing mobile shore support for Freya since the end of September.

I have been monitoring your progress and admire your fortitude.

I have a question concerning the Honda Generator presented and used in charging you equipment. Is this something you carried in your Kayak or recently borrowed?
