Day 30, Monday, 16.02.2009

Henry van der Kolk (my host in Terrigal) and Paul, owner of Mirage Sea Kayaks, adding an electrical pump to my current epic 18x sport sea kayak.

On my way along the Victorian and NSW caost I was frequently hosted and assiste by enthusiastic OZ sea kayakers and other lovey people.

I couldn’t have done without them, not without their local knowledge and helpful hints about anything different here in OZ, not without them driving me around, not without their hospitality.

I was happy about their helpful upgrading and little repairs on my boat. (Nadgee Kayaks will add their wheels to my new epic 18x sport, Mirage Sea Kayaks added an electrical pump to my current boat).

They are all part of the success of my trip. A BIG thanks to all of you guys after completing the first stage of my trip!!! I am travelling “unsupported” – without shore crew driving along – but the “real” support crew is consisting of 1000ds of people along the coast and online overseas!

Without all those positive encouraging comments from all of you guys from all over the world I may sometimes have a hard time to stay motivated, especially when amongst 100 positive encouraging e-mails there is one coming in sounding sceptical or even discouraging.

I am happy to keep you informed via my daily blog! I admit it’s hard work to keep track with that, but the positive feedback via comments and e-mails is giving me energy to keep on paddling and writing.

A BIG Thanks to all my sponsors as well, who make it possible to do this trip without getting bankrupt one day 🙂

And a BIG thanks to my German ground crew keeping my shops running!

THANKS to all of you!!!

Go Freya! You’re my paddling inspiration! Enjoy the trip. Whatever the outcome the undertaking is a lifetime achievement in itself. Please be safe. God be with you.

Hallo Frau Hoffmeister,

If this expedition was easy, then more people would be doing it. You can do this. You have what takes, you are doing great!

Fair waters, fair wind and may the lord look over you…those were the words a river captain told me when I started to paddle the Atrato river in Colombia…the story will appear in the Sea Kayaker issue of next April…it will be a privilege to appear side by side with your epic adventure… Best of Luck

Hi Freya,
I’m enjoying your anecdotes and like the other “watchers” are interested to know more about technical aspects of your kayak. I think it would be good to itemise your items and provide volumes and weights as it might give others an idea on how to prepare for their own trips. Your FAQ has answered some of this and is a good repository for this info.

I’m doing a trip myself and are leaving on Friday for one or two weeks. It doesn’t compare in scale with your epic but is a challenge suited to me. Your sponsors will be happy as notes on your items has also compelled me to purchase some additional items for it.

If it is possible for you to put my web links into your notes to aid in the collection of money for volunteer activities on the australian coastline, their efforts of which help to make it one of the most pristine in the world.

The final link will be updated throughout my 1-2 week cruise.

Best wishes,
Mark.
ps. your challenge is all good, my only “sore” point is that Tasmania is not included in your challenge as it is truly a significant part of Australia. It were left out in the logo for the 1984 Commonwealth Games in Australia and didn’t it cause a furore! Perhaps you will do it for a holiday when you safely return to Queenscliffe!

Well done!!
The first stage completed!!
Thinking of you in this freezing weather. You’ve made better progress than the weather forecast seemed to promise.
But what happened to spot?
I’ve been pinning book marks into google earth to track the progress as spot seems to loose it after a while?
Keep the spirit!
Edda

Hi Freya, just red about you and your trip in the “Husumer Nachrichten”. What a great job!!! Keep on going, god bless you, greetings from foggy Nordfreislang, Maike
