Day 109, Wednesday, 06.05.2009

I felt enough recovered after the crossing to give it a go again after four days in Nhulunbury! Probably due to Kera’s massage the last day as well…she did a great lenghy workout on me! Thanks! I would love to have a picture taken of that job, but it was a private session… :-))

All sores and swollen legs look wayyyyy better now, good enough to go.

I got a lovely farewell that early morning from the Nhulunbuy care crew, and Charles gave me a push into the low muddy surf. I’d loved to stay longer as usual with all those lovely people, but the sea was calling…thanks for caring about me!

The first leg to Cape Wirawawoi was actually quite rough and confused seas, it got much better on the long crossing to Cape Wilberforce. It is a beautiful piece of rock, that Cape! About 1/2 hr befor it I found this bamboo canoe floating around, still in quite good shape, but lots of mussels growing on the ends already. I wonder from where it  got abandoned…just don’t hope some poor refugees from a far away land got into trouble on it and drowned…

Around the corner into Malay Road it was calm again, until the south easterly wing grabbed me and tried to push me out.

It started to rain heavily again in the afternoon, and all landsight was gone until I hit the beach between Herald Islet and the mainland. Lovely spot!

I arrived relatively early at 5pm, and stripping out of my wet kayaking clothes I noticed some self-peeling of my skin on the legs and on some sunburnt parts like arms and neck, so the best idea was to continue the job with a full body seasand peeling! Felt great! Just missed someone to rub my back…still washing the sand off quite quick…who knows what likes to eat me in the water…but no single croctail or sharkfin to be seen. What a pity actually you can’t go for a relaxed swim here…

great to see Freya off on her journey this morning. I’m sure she really appreciates the fantastic support that she got from Charles and Mandy Rue, in particular, during her stay. The surf club guys were also able to pass on invaluable information regarding safe landing spots on her journey to Darwin. Our best wishes go with her. Safe journey. I know we now become part of the family watching her progress
