Day 149, Monday, 15.06.2009

I could hear the generator of the big vessel next bay up to my beach all night…time to sleep with earplugs again!

Destination today was Corneille Island, via Red Island on Cape Bougainville, Hat Point with it’s funny shape and a big fat tidal race. It was luckily running into the right direction and sped me along with about 10 km/h!

The tide was fully in my favour then the whole afternoon, lucky, as the Admirality Gulf was supposed to have quite a fat tidal movement.

I made the 65 km from 5.30 to 15pm only, and was happy to have two hours off the afternoon to dry my skin and to treat myself just a bit nice.

My skin starts to play up after 15 days of continuous paddling already, it’s itchy, covered with all kinds of bites and scratches. At night I’m waking, and sometimes can’t stop the itchy feeling and me scratching…not good…I do spare all night a bit of fresh water to have a tiny shower, but this doesn’t seem to be enough. My skin needs sun, and to be dry and free of salt for some days…in Broome…

Text message from Freya via satellite phone:

14.11 125.44 Corneille Island. 65 km, 5:30 am to 3:00 pm. Excellent run with the tide. Besides two choppers, no sign of life on this beautiful island.
