Day 194, Thursday, 30.07.2009

I was launching at 7.30am as usual, getting to the beach fully loaded with water and food. Aland helped me again with the wheel barrow!

I was passing this working platform, actually quite a reasonable idea! Four poles, the platform attached from a shipoader as high as the poles go in the water and the tide is coming up, and then you can drill a whole in the sea ground searching for oil or whatever.

Destination was Fly Island, halfway across the Exmouth Gulf. I was passing Locker Island halfway, and actually, in a direct line from Onslow to North West Cape there was rather Observation Island than Fly Island – I wonder why I didn’t pick that one!

But oh well, decision was made, and I was already there. Regarding the wind direction next day, it was even better starting from Fly Island.

Nothing special on that day’s paddling, besides a noticeable lifting sea and swell. I made it in very last light to the beach.

Text message from Freya via satellite phone:

21.48 114.33 Fly Island. 60km, 7:30 am to 6;30 pm. I paddled into last light on an open crossing with easy winds…not much to say!

Hi Freya!

I have been kayaking for seven days in Stockholm Archipelago, Sweden. Your tour is getting even more impressive after my little trip. I only have some blisters but are tired and hungry, can’t imagine how it feels like after 194 days. Keep up the good work!

Kayaking is life!
