Day 2, Monday, 19.01.2009

It was supposed to be *Cassie* Wright at Cape Patterson- sorry Cassie I missed you! Thanks for offering me your help anyway.

It turned out to be *Karl* Wright who me me at the beach in Hermes Heaven – by incident! Not related to Cassie – but he was watching me going through the reef break in last light at his home beach near Hermes Heaven, about 40 min left to Cape Patterson beach. It was scary for him from his perspective, but my GPS showed me a clean gap through the reefs, and it really looked allright to pass through and not to give the last rocks it a wide berth. Still in mind:”If in doubt – stay out!”

Landing in that reef gap I found turned out to be a proven local landing – Karl gave me a hand and grabbed my bow! Thanks! Nice to have a welcome party on the beach!

He was amazed by my trip, and went off to bring his partner Melanie and a basket full off freshly cooked dinner goodies – raelly nice service after a tiring day! Thanks, Melanie and Karl!

Locals, keep on meeting and greeting me like that at night, please! 🙂

Melanie was so nice to take a bag of some surplus gear next morning to the post office – lightening up was the best to do! Paddling was still tough all day, headwinds, headwinds, headwinds…therefore reaching Cape Patterson as planned still in daylight was just about missed.

But what could be a better place to land than in “Hermes Heaven”…

Hi Freya

I am a friend of Paul Chalupsky. Paul paddles with me on the weekend and updates me on your progress around Australia. Quite a huge feet and history making adventure you are achieving. I have just looked at your web sight while testing software at work to see where you are in Australia. Paul says he wished he could have caught up with you as you went passed Brisbane, may be next time you pass by. Anyway I wish you all the best on completing your paddle around Australia and will keep looking at your web sight to see how you’re going. Take care.

Cheers

Andre Brosnan
