Day 236, Thursday, 10.09.2009

Thanks to everyone who joined me tonight on my Q & A session! I was very happy to see your big interest in my trip, to meet and greet you and to share my knowledge and experience with all of you guys!

Thanks a lot as well for the donations of that evening from all of you, plus the extra from the Swan Canoe Club and from some other private guy I’m sorry I missed to ask for his name! It all helps me along to keep on going!

If anyone has a lovely pic of him/herself with me you are happy to share here, just send it to me via e-mail! Thanks!

John Wilkie, CDU-sponsored epic V12 paddler

Sandy Robson and her partner Ian. Sandy has paddled about 7000 km of the OZ coastline by herself in 2007!

And – I was overwhelmed by those e-mails you sent to Terry…hope you are happy to see them here! Thanks a lot!

Hi Terry,

Thanks for organising the talk by Freya last night it was inspiring to meet her and hear the tales of her journey. I was talking to a friend of a friend their last night who said he used the epic paddles too and as I’m in the market for a new one will try them, which previously I probably would not have done. It was also great to see the V12, would love to take that for a ride sometime. Clearly Freyas craft is pretty strong given the shark damage on the rear too! A great advert for Epic.

We will all be following her progress over the next few months.

Thanks again

 Dear Terry and Alaine.

Thank you for arranging the talk and answer session by Freya Hoffmeister on the evening of Thursday, 10 September 2009.

We count it as one of the privileges of our lifetimes to meet, and to listen to a talk given by, such an awe-inspiring woman.

What an inspiration Freya is! We are very impressed by her courage, her determination, her resourcefulness, and her amazingly positive outlook, despite what obviously have been at times very difficult and dangerous situations. Freya spoke confidently and yet honestly about all aspects of her mammoth undertaking, and was exceptionally generous with her time. And what an infectious sense of humour she has!

Freya is a wonderful ambassador for Epic and all her other sponsors. Although we are unaware whether sponsors receive feedback on the impact of their support for such undertakings, we are sure that Epic Kayaks in particular would appreciate knowing about the wonderful endorsement Freya is providing for them and their products on her journey around Australia.

As far as we are concerned, Epic Kayaks are the ideal major sponsors for a journey of such epic proportions.

We have no doubt whatsoever about Freya’s ability to complete her circumnavigation of the Australian continent, and we wish her a safe journey ‘home’.

Regards,

Wendy & Paul Jackson

PS. My only regret about the evening is that I didn’t follow my inclination to give Freya a standing ovation. I certainly will be doing so in my mind when she passes Mandurah. WJ

Hi Terry, I would like to thank you for organising such a great night with Freya. It was so entertaining. She is so open and friendly and it was great to listen to someone with so much experience and  knowledge of kayaking. I think we are so lucky here in Perth to have experienced this.

Thanks Brad Sorley

Hi Terry

Thanks for arranging this last night. I must say that we were amazed not only by Freya’s achievement to date, but how well she presented herself, how well she described her trials and journey experiences and how the small kayak has carried her and all supplies this long distance!!

It was great being greeted by her personally.

It is really a massive achievement, so you and any helpers and sponsors can rightly feel very proud to be associated with it!

 Cheers,

 Norman

Hello Alaine,

It was good to see you last night at Freya’s talk. Sorry I had to go early after the close of her talk, as I had another function to attend.

I was impressed. She has a simple uncomplicated approach to tackling giant challenges, and it is an inspiration to many. She is a credit to herself as well as to her principal supporter Epic, and others of course.

By way of appreciation, seeing she didn’t get much of a chance to “see” the Great Barrier reef as she paddled over it (a good case for a glass-bottomed kayak!), I attach a slide show of the GBR for you to pass on to her. I hope she will enjoy it. I used to run a 45′ charter boat up there, out of Cairns and Port Douglas, out to Green and Lizard Islands, Cooktown, Cape Tribulation and as far north as the Cape York.

Thanks to Canoeing Downunder for the evening and to Freya for her presentation. Well done!

Sincerely,

Doug

Hi Terry

Really enjoyed Freya’s talk.

She is an amazing person.

Epic should be delighted that such a gutsy lady has chosen to  paddle one of their kayaks on such an awesome trip. Another first for them.

Thanks Terry for arranging the talk

Hi Terry

Thanks for organizing the talk Freya gave to the kayaking public in Perth last night. It was great to hear Freya talk of her trip so far.

I was amazed at her achievements; 7 nights sleeping in her kayak whilst crossing the Gulf of Carpentaria is something I can’t begin to imagine.

What a great ambassador for kayaking and for those who wish to achieve the improbable!

I hope her sponsors appreciate the publicity this trip is generating for them. Epic Kayaks, please take note!

Regards

Murray

Hi Terry,
Thanks for the opportunity to meet Freya by organising her talk in Bassendean last night.  Her expedition is already one of the most remarkable achievements in sporting history, and she still has a long way to go. It was fantastic to see such a good turnout from the paddling community, and it was a great night.
Regards,
Russ

Terry, thank you so much for organising Freya’s talk last night.  She really is an amazing person – not only achieving incredible physical feats, but down-to-earth & an entertaining speaker as well.  You & she have a lot in common. I’m sure she must have really appreciated the help & support you have given her.

I was surprised that her Epic kayak looked so “normal” & yet was obviously capable of doing pretty much everything she asked of it.

Thanks again

Hey Terry,

Thanks so much for arranging for Freya to talk to us last night, it was an honour and privelege to actually meet Freya, shake her hand, and hear stories of  one who is massively contributing towards kayaking history.

What she’s doing is amazing! I learnt a lot from listening to her about how to set a goal and then go about conquering every barrier that may prevent your ultimate success.

I wish her all the best for her next 4000k’s and will be following the blog everyday!

Regards,

Nicole trudgeon

A large crowd turned up to hear this amazing paddler’s stories of her Australian adventures so far. Now there’s just 4,000km to go! All those present were very impressed. It goes without saying we all wish her the best of luck for the remainder of the trip.  Our thanks to Terry and Alaine for organising the evening.

Hi Freya,
This is the first time I’ve looked at this website. Impressive! I’ll keep an eye on it from now on. I wrote the above letter to Alaine and sent you some photos of the Great Barrier Reef through her. Hope you enjoy them. I just wanted to add a personal “thank you” for your presentation here in Perth and to wish you well in what will possibly be a most demanding section of your trip, although of course I hope the wind and big seas relent long enough to let you through.
Stay safe, good luck and happy paddling!
Doug :o)

Enjoy your time off Freya, you’ve earned it well…I can’t believe how fast you’re travelling around the coast, especially with the winds you’ve faced!

congrats freya on making Perth, and all the best for the rest of the trip

Hi Freya, just want to let you know how much I enjoyed your talk on Thursday night. It was great to meet you in person, you are a true inspiration. Thanks so much for the photo you autographed and best of luck with the rest of your adventure.

Shorty

Its looks like Freya has made Pt Peron, as she would probally know a yacht was smashed to pieces the next morning within spitting distance of her stop and the seaman was rescued by helicopter in 40 -50 knots winds,,so it was a good time and place to stop, weather is crap here blowing a gale and huge swells (this is my home town) i would not expect her to leave before sunday.

Thanks very much for the interesting question answer evening last night. You were very impressive and I would like to wish you all the best for the rest of the journey on behalf of the sea kayak club of Western Australia. How lucky we were to have that special evening.

Enjoy your days off, and that presentation Thursday evening (it’s “history” by now!). Looking forward to a report on that talk, and maybe (too much to hope for?) a video. Would have almost been worh 12,000 miles of airfair to be in the audience.
