Day 29, Sunday, 15.02.2009

Rain squall, raising the wind speed from 5bft to 6-7 bft

The passing yachts in Broken Bay were fighting the wind more than I was affected by it, as it came today right from behind. I felt more suitable in those conditions in my little seaworthy kayak than the big yachts. One of the got dangerously blown below 45 degrees…I wouldn’t have wanted to be in their boats! And they probably wouldn’t have wanted to be in mine, probably being quite surprised about me showing up in the BIG stuff…one yacht was motoring, some others had little sails on, few big ones and were sailing a different course then.

I’m sick of the BIG stuff, it’s mentaly more draining than physically. Please give me my lovely low to moderate Northerlies back, where seas are low to moderate as well…

I made quite good speed all day in the BIG stuff, but far away from powering like a single one or two-hrs ride on a surfski. Paddling day after day for long hours in BIG conditions, meaning I can’t relax much or have lunch easily on the water, is draining. You are not surfing it with your heavy boat, you just let the water happening and go in your own pace. Whatever water is underneath, you are dancing with it continuously, but not accelerating at all. There is no energy left for it, the day by day power and balance job takes it all.

I may continue writing tomorow. I fall asleep again now…had already a two hours nap before dinner.

The SPOT tracking doesn’t show your trip to Terrigal. Is something amiss?

Hang in there! You’ve got lots and lots of people cheering you on!

Can offer you a place to stay at caves beach on your way past just near swansea channle if you would like Freya,

When Freya says BIG STUFF she really means it – glad you managed to get in before the gale warning and very many congratulations on such a long tough paddle. At least the gale warning will allow time for a hugely deserved rest.

Very best wishes, Peter

Hi Freyr,

We have not meet, but came across a story about your trip on sleepmonsters website. I wish you all the best and happy paddling. Wish I could see all the things your eyes will see over the next 340 days. Should be a good adventure, enjoy the big stuff.

Hi Freya,

Finde ich genial was du machst! Echt klasse! Sehr beneidenswert!
Very remarkable!!!
Viel Spaß noch….!

Besten Gruß
Dirk
