Day 6, Friday, 23.01.2009

relaxing on deck

Next day was tha crossing from Johnny Souey tp Ninety Miles Beach. If I would have been aware of those nasty breakers going into the inlet entrances…the first entrance at Bentley Harbour before Townsend Point still scared me a bit, but giving it a wide berth was the solution as usual. Just a bit more paddling to do…

Port Albert Entrance was similar, even a bit worse. But I didn’t even bother any more putting my PFD on anymore…Kate Kearney entrance was hard to notice as I was way offshore anyway, and the last one was buisiness as usual.

I didn’t had any idea how the landing was along Ninty Miles Beach. Rough dumpers? Long nasty surflines? Luckily nothig of all on this and the next three days…just some windbreakers rolling onto the beach with gentle power. It could throw you, but with good timing and some bracing skills it was easy to handle. I didn’t even get a single drop in my face on landing and launching next morning…but I still was cautious and put on my helmet. You always underestimate the surf…still having heavy landing and launchings from New Zealand on my mind, having to roll several times…

I prefered to land about 500m before Woodside Beach, not wanting to see anybody that night. Best thing to wear after landing and the cleaning pleasant swim was just NO clothes until you get chilly…PC was right…
