19.09 146.50 Magnetic Island 70km boring paddle with few wind, waves and tide. I like action!

sanddunes from the night’s wind

As I expected, the surf off Cape Bowling Green eased almost completely over night. But it took a while until the wind went down that night! My tent and kayak got quite a sandblast, and around both was next morning a deep gap in the sand blown by the wind.

The paddle took ages today, the tide wasn’t pushing much any more and tehre was almost no wind…but a dark sky behind me. At 4pm the wind came! It brought some rainsquall over Cape Cleveland, but nothing on my head. The cape had a lovely beach around the corner, with a little hut obviously belonging to the lighthouse. But I can’t land everywhere…Magnetic Island was the destination to fill up water and to follow Ian and Barbara’s invitation for a bed and shower.

It was unluckyI couldn’t get in contact with them as I haven’t got any mobile right now and no phone number showed up on my e-mail, just two voice messages on my mobile showed the computer…probably Ian and Barbara leaving their phone number…

I pulled into highly developed Nelly Bay’s harbour where I was announcing a few days ago to them to show up on Friday night besides the ferry terminal, but no one in sight…and nothing on the e-mail. Failed date, but sorry, can’t help. And I was alreeady tempted to stay a whole day to do some online work…

So I just filled up my waterbags in the harbour and left in last light to head to a remote looking beach around the corner. Landing in almost darkness…still a dogwalker close to the water with the dog in the water, so no crocs seem to be snapping here…
