Day 7, Saturday 24.01.2009

…no, I wasn’t diggin a grave for my baby…it was done by the wind all day…

Same issue as on Thursday, strongest winds forecasted for lunchtime – this time following!!! Maybe I could easily get blown up the coast? It was exciting to see what will happen…

The morning was looking allright…launching, and see how far I’ll get!

As launching and landing didn’t seem to be any problem at Ninety Miles Beach in this non-existing swell, I was not scared to go.

Half an hour paddling, and then it was *there* – strongest following winds, force 5-6, gusting 7-8, but pushing you along! I was just not too lucky to be pushed where I wanted to…as my rudder was still worth an improvement (the new one will be installed soon). Going zic zac was a bit understating…I just couldn’t handle that (heavy loaded bloody bitch) of a sweetheart in those winds! Edging wasn’t very efficient either with that long waterline, so I made my decision at some point quick and went in again. No chance in that stuff to put on the PFD or helmet for landing…but again it was an easy landing. The (non-existing) swell would make the difference…

Oscar C. would probably have had the ride of his lifetime and probably would have done 200 km that day :-)) – me on a surfski hopefully as well….

It was s spot where locals come out for fishing and pleasant swims…so I was not alone all day, although I’d rather wanted to be. 4-wheelers are quite noisy…youngsters enjoying scary colored drinks…

At least I eventually had cell phone reception on my OZ sim card for calls…eventually after 8 days of fiddling with Telstra by Anne Bognar…thanks for that, Anne! But still no data reception…the dream of sitting peacefully in my tent all afternoon and e-mailing and blogging was gone…

Two friendly fishermen I was talking to topped my fresh water bags up with a clear liquid coming out of a huge fuel canister…but it *was* good fresh water! Thanks again, guys!

They were watching me launching next morning…spectators make you uncautious…and I got  a couple of good splashes not only into my face, but into my open neck zipper as well! F……sh.. ! Being wet already in the morning is not too pleasant for the whole day…
