18.08 146.16 North Brooks Island 75km it’s simply paradise here once the anchorhng prawn trawler went off for the nightshift…
After I left Falcon Island, I couldn’t help but stopping after an hour on Orpheus Island on that inviting tourist jetty. I thought it leads to a resort inland or so…no, it was simply for the beautiful beach and to please a boatload of tourists for a picnic…
I was thinking about landing on Cape Sandwich, the north-east spit of Hinchinbrook Island, but it was a bay, bays are traps, and Hinchinbrook is known as croc’s paradise – well, at least the west side in the channel. And it was still early in the day, 3.30pm, so Brooks Islands were just the right destination for the beautiful day.
I picked the northern island, always the one on top…it had the most inviting sandspit from the distance.
Besdides the floatsam and jetsam and this time a dry lake there is always a nice clean sandy spot on top to pitch the tent…
The beach with the reef goes almost around this island. Access without reef only on the northern spit.
