Day 8, Sunday 25.01.2009

passing Seaspray…the only civilized “beachlife site” on 90 Miles Beach…

No, those guys didn’t come up to me for a rescue or to fine me passing too close to the beach life as they might have done in Germany…

“Are you the lady paddling around Australia? That’s awesome!” Some ego-boosting feels good…actually, it was Mick McRobb from VSKC who was asking those guys some hours ago on their watchtower if I already have passed…

I didn’t know it was Mick as well acting as a paparazzi later passing Golden Beach, running behind me with a big camera to shoot me off for a while…thanks for even some more ego-boosting, I was thinking, probably a reporter from the local press alerted by the life guards… :-)) – if he would have called out for me and called his name I could have esily come in to say hi! Peter Treby told me he wasn’t available to meet me later at Lakes Entrance, but luckily he was home Monday night then!

Mick took some great shoots of me passing by, here are some of them…

here we go, black and white artwork again…thanks to Mick McRobb, kayaksails@bigpond.com

I pulled ashore about 7 km behing Paradise Beach then, when I passed by the last fisherman, waving at him and felt being in wilderness again.

That last fisherman was still in sight, but in a great distance when I went for my nude swim as usual at night…but he must have had either good eyes or binoculars to have enjoyed what he saw…

He came up to my tent when I was asleep already that night at 9pm:

“Is anybody home?” I stuck my head out of my tent, my wet hair wrapped in a towel and covered by my hoodie, pulling my anti-noisy-surf-earplugs out of my ears:

“Hi there! Are you the lonely fisherman I passed by last?”

“Yes, that’s me…I thought you would like some company tonight?”

“No, thanks, I was already asleep…”

 “Do you like some coffee?”

“No thanks, I’m bloody tired from the day…”

“I saw you having your nude swim, it looked lovely…”

“Thanks, that’s the only thing to do after a long day’s paddling…”

“You are sure you don’t like some company tonight?”

“Yes, thanks, but you can have my trip card…” I pulled out a card, passed it to him and he was shuffling peacefully and friendly off then… probably having nice dreams that night on my lovely picture… :-))

Just about fell out of my chair laughing. Thanks for sharing Freya, just remember if the fisherman down under are anything like Alaskan fisherman, they have the best vision and/or the best binoculars.
