Day 91, Saturday, 18.04.2009

11.10 143.01 Milman Island 65km 7to18 a baby croc rushed into the water when I checked around the corner. Hope he is not picking his dad!

Camp blocked to the water with my kayak and some logs

I was planning to reach (S… Island, forgot the name), 65 km away from Saunders Island, but this would have been another almost darkness landing…so I rather played it safe and landed at 6.30 pm on the restricted Milman Island…sorry, but sometimes you have to land where I already knew I shouldn’t…

It was almost high tide and the reef fully flooded. It was quite windy, and my thoughts were rather land on the windy reefy side than on the lee sandy side, as I expected the BIG resident croc on the “bel etage” rather than on the rough side…

I landed safely on the sandy stretch to the east besides the reef rocks, and walked about 50 m further east to check the beach for residents.

There it was, my first alife wild croc in daytime…about 1,50 m long only…it was rushing into the water when he saw me.

I guessed simply “sorry for invading into your living area, I won’t disturb you and your family (if there is some…) any more, please just leave me 100m space on the beach for this night, I’ll do the same…I won’t stay long…” and I stopped my usual round of beachcombing on this island. No idea about how many more crocs were with me…

I quickly put up my tent, blocked it sparsely with my kayak and some logs and disappeared out of the sight of the parading baby croc. He obviously was training his parading skills a bit on me, and I was training myself on him to get used to their presence by starting with a small one…

Next morning he was gone fishin’ already, and I was off with no problems.
