Thule Dinner

Dinner at Manly Beach with Maree and Adrian van Bellen, Thule car racks representatives Australia.

First day in Sydney…I decided to do a short walk down to Manly Beach at about 6.30 am – a beautiful sunny morning. Surf was up already and the water was busy with early morning swimmers and surfers like it would never be in Germany on a Sunday afternoon – with inviting 22-23 degrees and a surf to think already of how to get through it with a loaded kayak…

I would have loved to go for a swim as well, but I was a bit late for a decent skinny-dip in protective darkness, as my costume was still in the missing bag…but I guessed I will be dipping enough the whole next year 🙂

I got a call from the airprot service – not earlier than *three* flights later they seemed to be able to get my bag on a flight from London. They must be a busy company…so more waiting until tomorrow way after lunchtime for the delivery of my missing bag. At least they know where it is…

I saw my boat today for the first time – but unfortunately Andrew Divola was still working on it. He hopes to be done Wednesday night, when all things go well. I may be able to drive to Melbourne Thursday night then. But I should better get rid of my German planning habit and switch to BIG island time…

I hope to be able to help Andrew with some outfitting tomorrow.

Dinner with Maree and Adrian van Bellen, Thule car racks representatives Australia, was something nice to top of a day with quite a bit of jetlag feeling and sweeting in my usual long black pants – my shorts are still in my missing bag!

They are very lovely people, and I enjoyed their company and ideas very much. They’ll next provide me a THULE roof rack system for my drive down to Sydney. Thanks for that!

Beach, surf and *moonraise* over Manly Beach – that’s not the sunset, but a fat moon squeezing over the horizont!

Hi Freya,
I almost missed it 😉 Great to hear you’re already down-under. Success with the last bits of preparation and organisation, and above all: good luck with the big adventure you are heading in! You’ll make it, enjoy exploring this continent!
Greetings from the Netherlands,

Manly beach walk … don’t step on washed in blue-bottles

outfitting … make sure to pick up a few ‘olive cleats’

stay cool – I hear there is a ‘fire ban’ due to the heat
