Talk and final party in Melbourne

Thanks to everyone joining me on my talk and final party in Melbourne, despite a naturally short term notice and approaching holidays!

I appreciated very much the love and effort the VSKC put in to organize everything.

David Golightly and his team was happy to to stay flexible until the last week before my actual arrival. It was necessary to wait with setting the day for the formals until I could foresee the weather for the last seven days on www.buoyweather.com for the potential arrival date.

Not an easy task! Thanks for managing that tough job!

I wasn’t meant to “Race around Australia” for eleven months, and then had to wait a couple of days just around the corner for the “official arrival” matching a weekend date…very sorry I missed on that…but chances were 1:7!

Peter Costello, VSKC club president, on his “official” talk. Thanks, Peter!

David Golightly, VSKC “special event coordinator”, announcing I donated my (first) kayak plus some gear to the VSKC.

The VSKC will donate it to the Queenscliff Maritime Museum, where it will be displayed for the public in eternity, side by side with Paul Caffyn’s kayak he used on the first circumnavigation of Australia 27 years ago.

A special thanks to David Golightly initiating the process! I’m feeling very comfortable with that decision.

Greg Gleason, playing a marvellous powerful cover version of the Freya Shakti song by Emerald Rose.

A great final of a great night! Thanks, Greg! It was not easy to swallow the tears…

Dear Freya Hoffmeister, congratulations to this outstanding, incredible achievement! I have read about it in the magazines “Kanusport” and “Kanumagazin” and there was a short notice with the same picture as in the publication of “Kanusport” in our local newspaper (Pegnitzzeitung). It is definitely amazing that this remarkable world record is hardly known. Any fart of Boris Becker or broken toe of some socker player gets more publicity
(I can imagine why).

Best regards and wishes for the future!

U. Hollwedel
