Well said, Chuck. Surround yourselves with positivity and you cannot fail. 🙂
Go Freya, Paddle on.

Lest anybody be tempted to complain about the use of more than one kayak during this epic voyage, that is about as relevant as demanding that someone use only one pair of shoes to walk across a continent. This is not about a boat, which is simply an important tool for getting the job done! It is about one person’s indomitable spirit and immense ability.

Paul Caffyn used one kayak, a Nordkapp, for the whole trip. He started out with it rudderless, but had one fitted in Brisbane. He had others paddling with him on some legs of the trip (part of his support crew), but he kept the one boat. It is now in the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum near where Paul completed his trip and where Freya will complete hers. This was organised by the VSKC, who is helping Freya with her trip. Greg Barton has explained why the boat swap is happening now; if the heavier lay up had been available at the start Freya would have used it from the start.

I’m curious if any of the sea kayaking experts know if Paul Caffyn used more than one kayak on his year-long paddle around OZ?

A note from a bird who eat kadaver:

What´s about the old Epic kayak ? Is its possible to buy ? But perhaps, Freya, allso very much luck with your new one.

may this new kayak serve Freya well.
In reference to the repair job on the existing one, was the patch by any chance done with polyester resin?
It’s well known that polyester does not bond too well to epoxy (Epic kayaks); actually it is an inferior material for repairs on any kayak…
