Welcome, logo No. 50!

Welcome, logo No. 50!

I’m very pleased and feel honored my extensive work with sponsors is topping in a joint venture with

Thule Sweden.

Working with sponsors sound like a nice game, collecting all those colorful logos on your website and getting a pile of great useful gear given. But It is not only a *taking* relationship.

“Giving” is the other side. And it’s hard long office work to get connected with matching companies and to stay in touch.

It may be easy to forget on a trip to give back what *I* have to offer. I took a responsibilty to my sponsoring partners to do my best to represent their company.  And it requires some thoughts how to fulfill this promise best.

I *do* have to think which piece of gear and which logo will come out best when I take a picture or a small video footage. Pictures need to be sent out. I do have to carefully place all my logo stickers and to think which t-shirt/ hat will be best on any media approach. I do have to contact media, and respond to all inquiries. Most of them are “for free” in terms of direct payment and part of my work I have to give back to my sponsors.

All is pleasant and rewarding work, but it shouldn’t be underestimated. The time I’m putting into that work in not possible to count. I could go without sponsors, pay all my gear by myself, reject most media approaches and rather “work as a normal employee” in those saved hours with probably even a better pay. I would have much more of a quiet preparation time and trip. But I would have less fun and less mental support and reward!

On my previous trips I just tstarted to get used to sponsoring. On my “Race around Australia” I hope to be already a bit professional with the previous experiences.

*Big* trip – big (pile of) sponsors…it’s like with a bank – if you’ve got a base already, it’s easier to get more. Quantity comes first by working with plenty of smaller, alomost one-(wo)man-companies- some are giving quite their heart and time into supporting me. I appreciate their initial input and help and know without them there won’t be a base of growing.

“Quality” in terms of big international companies with a wide background and quite a bit more of gear input is next – and the smaller companies from the “base work” have the benefit as well coming with the increased exposure.

Thanks to all people and companies on my sponsor’s list who decided to work with me! I appreciate each single input, and know I wouldn’t have got that far without either of you!
