Day 11
No paddling
Garnish Bay Long Island

A good decision to stay put today, no reason to bash into a 15-20 knots nw headwind and according bumpy seas.
And I got my loved Kokatat Expedition dry suit delivered today right at my beach! Well, I had to paddle over the gap to see Jon Hynes arriving already with my parcel nicely packed and sent by Ilona Sierks, my trustworthy long-term main manager-employee. Thanks to both making it possible! Sent on Friday and arriving already yesterday, I wonder why the German post office offers “express” as well taking expected five days and costing five times of regular mail what this was? Ah, and he brought me my sex jelly…thanks!

Jon cooked some tea o the beach, but we couldn’t share as many paddling stories as we liked to do as he was escorted by three of his young students he was looking after. Jon and a friend were paddling around Ireland last year, and made a very well done inspirational documentary video. I haven’t got the video link on the beach, but just google his name and you’ll find it. He also told me again about a young Irish girl of 18 years only also being on her way around Ireland. Start young, and you can make all continents! 🙂

I found three well in shape large empty fish boxes on my grassy-rocky island, and took my time to do something useful for the living quality here and cleaned up the beach and hills around my camp from plastic rubbish, lining the boxes nicely up in a sheltered corner of the concrete jetty in the hope one fisherman will take them to a dump one day…will it ever happen before the next storm is blowing the boxes plus contents all over the place again? Walking on some spots, I felt many plastic bottles literally grown into the long deep grass already…a never ending story on most beaches of this world!

Etienne Muller I fear that garbage will be redistributed before it is taken ashore.

Jasper Winn Don’t be such a pessimist..next you’ll be saying that Freya will be done for fly tipping, because she’s left rubbish on the beach and didn’t take it away….oh, hang on that did happen to someone who cleaned up a beach, didn’t it. Still, it’s a good thMehr anzeigen

Etienne Muller You are right of course Jasper. We have to do whatever we can. A forlorn hope is still a hope I guess.

I took this photo around the corner from Kilcatherine. A small cove not accessible by car, so all the garbage must have washed in from the sea.Mehr anzeigen

Jimmy Johnstone It needs a pile of stones on it to prevent it blowing away.
