Queen of positive self-motivation?

If you guys think I may be the “Queen of positive self-motivation”, I’d love you to check out a website of a woman who probably has an even stronger mental and physical attitude:

Karen Darke

I’ve met Karen already years ago on a symposium and instantly loved her attitude! We met again here and there, and stayed in occasionally e-mail contact. Only now I had time to check a bit deeper on her website and achievements. I can’t find words for what to say. THIS is mental and physical power! I’d be honored to adventure and speak with her together some times!

All my love and respect to you, Karen!  Freya

Thank you Freya, Bonnie M. and Betty Lowmqn Caryey. I need to know of your lives. You inhabit another realm of living to the fullest. Inspiration and awe. I speak of these adventures often.
May I live long enough to experience something vaguely similar.

Hi Freya – It has been truly exciting following you these past months. This summer I fulfilled a long time dream of paddling in the Queen Charlotte Islands – Haida Gwaii – where wilderness and weather are magical. One day, by chance, I hitched a ride with an elderly couple, We chatted about kayaking and I was telling them about you and your trip. To my surprise, I was talking to Betty Lowman Carey, the author of Bijaboji-North to Alaska by Oar. She rowed her dugout canoe from Seattle to Alaska (1,000 miles) in 66 days…in 1937! She was 22 years old and this was her idea of summer vacation. She had minimal supplies, no money, no charts, no compass, and of course no internet! But loads of self motivation. She is now 95 years old, still living in her original house in that northern rainforest, a legend in her own time. Her story is exultant and compelling. Just like yours. Strength, stamina, determination and will, but best of all, good doses of humour, lead to success. With ya til Melbourne!

Freya – you, Karen Drake and Candace Cable, are providing all of us, but especially we women, with role models of amazing courage, undaunted determination, athleticism and true spirit of adventure, You are all out there pushing yourselves to the limits, going way past your comfort zones, at times, feeling the fear, but doing it anyway. If I ever find myself paddling in in too big wind and waves and start to feel afraid, I know I will think to myself — “Freya would not let fear enter here, so just breathe and keep on paddling!” Thank you for that!

Freya, last year I had the honor of circumnavigating Lake Tahoe (only 80 miles) with Candace Cable, a retired Olympic Skier and Racer! She also uses a wheelchair. But before she met me, had never sat in a kayak! It is small compared to what you are doing, but powerful nonetheless! It is truly amazing what can be accomplished with determination, goal setting and above all – positive attitude! All of these you posses in abundance. Candace and I are now looking at a Lake Baikal Circumnav. We all are humbled in the face of challenge. It is ttruly remarkable when you rise to meet it smiling! This indeed is what you are doing! Paddle on! Hillary

Just followed your link to Karen Darke’s site. Thanks for bringing this to the “Freya Fan Club’s” attention.

Karen’s sheer courage is just stunning! Even for role models (and you do come to mind in that description!), it’s good to have someone else to look up to.

Very inspirational! I had to overcome a broken lower-back and pelvis a few years ago and for me it was paddling that brought me back to the outdoors and exercise. It’s great to read others stories of strength and inspiration to help those of us with serious injuries to keep going despite the pain etc. Thanks for sharing this one with us Freya. Cheers, FP
