Heaviest rain and wind again all night and day until late afternoon, then it calmed down a little and I could see the other side again. Saturday will be ugly again, maybe Sunday morning I can go for at least the crossing away from the island. I’m feeling somehow trapped here, in the worst weather corner, and am hoping that the sea state for the 14 km crossing won’t be too bad despite lower winds of about 10-15 knots north west then.

I was only eating, reading and sleeping today, besides briefly checking my emails. I think I got now enough way points for campsites in the gulf, and for the river paddling and portage to not get lost…thanks for everybody sending me some information! Still, the other way round would be easier…but who says it has to be easy? 🙂

My body appreciates the rest, especially my hands where I quite fast get some painful swelling in the knuckles. The rest of the body muscles start only to hurt when they are not working every day any more…but all good!

I’m amazed how well the guys here are cooking only out of frozen, canned and dried food, and they are taking turns! No special cook engaged. If I’d have to stay longer, I probably would have to offer my turn as well 🙂 – thanks very much for hosting and looking after me!

Nothing more to tell, besides the only small (female) dog of the house is scared of me like hell…just wondering if she ever saw another female st this place at all? Sorry, princess, intruding on your domain here, being so much taller and stronger… :-))

Freya, my class of 8th-graders asked about your trip again. When I described some of your daily adventures, their attention was riveted to my words! Living here in the mountains, they cannot imagine being out on the open ocean alone in such a small craft.
Thank you for the inspiration you are providing for me, and for them. And thank you for the enjoyment I receive while reading your blog; although I shall never paddle the locations you dare, it makes me all the more eager to get onto our local lakes when spring arrives.
Stay safe and rest, courageous lady, for the next leg of your adventure!

Karen

Hello Freya, You are doing great. Covering a distance since I last checked in. How is the pain in your butt/hip doing? Sounds like your body needed some time to heal before you carry on. Good to listen to the body, be in the body, so the mind can rest. Yesterday my husband paddled to Rabbit key and back to Chokoloskee. I was so gratefull that I was able to do that! What you are doing brings inspiration to many. Thanks.
