Kayaking weekend in the Esteros del Ibera

The kayak group presented me with a flag of the Entre Ríos Province, handsigned with th best wishes of all kayakers. Thanks!

Thursday was just shopping day for my trip food and packing, but Friday Alejandro and I drove off to a kayaking weekend with a group of Argentinean friends to the Esteros del Iberá, a wetland like the Florida Everglades.

The weekend trip to the Esteros del Ibera - a beautiful wetland similar to Floridas's Evrglades

Although it was a loooooooong drive over some doubtful Argentina country roads, it was worth a visit!

The load of kayaks on the trailer, mostly double kayaks

We met the group in Conceptión del Uruguay, where the trailer got loaded and everybody found a place in a car. Just that the towing truck came out of the shop with some problems only at 5 pm…means we arrived only on Saturday at about 5.30 am on the campsite. But oh well…Argetinean patience…

Paddling-weekend organizer Juan Pablo Dacyszyn , TRU Kayaks Argentina

Juan Pably Dacyszyn, TRU Kayaks Argentina and Alejandros trip partner on the Del Fin del Mundo al Malvinas expedition, was organizing the weekend. thanks for inviting me!

Paddling a double kayak in the Estades del Ibera

We left my precioous epic 18x sport kayaks virgin until my trip start, and simply jumped in the SDK double kayaks Juan Pablo provided. Quite a new experience for me!

Juan Pablo adjusted my footpegs in the double kayak

I was sitting quite alright in the boat, but when it came to a crossing with quite some headwinds it was wettttttttt! But warm water and quite some fun…so no worries.

I paddled a double kayak with Alejandro

I liked Alejandro trying out my spare full carbon small midsize epic wing paddle , a 650 grams treat compared to most paddles which are commonly used here. He loved it! It was a bit choppy and became quite wet in the front, but at least it was warm water.

Plenty of Yacare caimans around

I was thinking I was done paddling in the company of long teethed animals after my Australian trip, but those species were simply harmlessly lying in the sun, like the Florida Alligators I already enjoyed paddling with.

A Carpincho or Capybara enjoying his breakfast

The Esteros del Ibera are full of flaura and fauna, and we enjoeyd floating around as well as paddling in quite some winds.

A man and his toys...Juan Pablo cut the wood beaver-style.

When it came to dinner, I first time witnessed a true Argentinean Asado – the “real” way…

P8200029.JPG
Juan Pablo prepared the Asado meat

The barbecue steak was slightly bigger than I was used to…and contained wayyyyy mor fat and bones than I was used to as well…

P8200030.JPG
Tata, Juan Pablo and his son Juan work on the Asado meat

But first the meat had to be prepared to be thrown on the wood fire in one piece.

P8200032.JPG
who is going to end up on the fire? Alejandro and Juan Pablo "fighting"...

Hey, it was really enough meat!

P8200033.JPG
Asado chef Juan Pablo - the big lump of meat becomes eventually quite edible...

It took some hours to cook on the open fire.

P8200046.JPG
The Asado meet disappeared magically somehow...chef cook Juan Pablo did a great job!

And yes, Juan Pablo found some lean pieces for my contend! It tasted very nice! Argentine meat is mostly as tender you can simply cut it with a spoon…

Marisa cutting the special Argentine desert

I cant remember what it was, but this was a yummy special desert treat as well.

The Argentinan group of kayakers on the weekend in the Esteros del Ibera
Overall, it was a very social weekend with lots of driving, wine, eating, some paddling and having fun! I found a lot of new friends, and enjoyed to learn about the different cultures before I am really heading off to my town trip! Thanks to everybody making me a great time!
