...and this is how the weather turned the next days...

Pos: here
Loc: Isla San Pedro
Acc: Navy Station
Dist: 0 km

Still no paddling today…and I did right! The morning wind break was smaller than yesterday, rain stopped less often, and the seas were all day covered with white caps. It is blowing heavily again now, and for this night the worst rain of these last five days is expected – but it should be the last rain for almost the next five or six days! So I really, really hope the sea is looking better after the rain tomorrow and the winds calming down to a reasonable level so that I can at least do the crossing . It may be around 9 or10 am or even later, but at least I’d be on the way again! I may paddle either the 20-25 or 40-45 km option. The rest of the next days should be easy going, until the river and portage!

This was the weather on my arrival at lunch time...

No idea how big the river will still be and how strong the current, and how wet the portage is after those long heavily raining days…we’ll see. But it will be at least now, after long patiently waiting (which is not really my favorite…), some good windless, dry and maybe even sunny days for paddling and working around there!

Having eventually reached the glacier lagoon, I’ll probably paddle past the glacier face for pictures, and then make camp at the Conaf hut. Do I really see a small air stripe on Google at the top right corner of the lagoon where the hut should be? Well…

I felt urgently I had to *do* something today apart from reading and sleeping, and was looking for some work which – would I have asked – the guys probably would never have “allowed” to do…they were all working outside in the woods apart from  Milton in the radio office, and I could watch them through the kitchen window. The big kitchen is generally very clean and very organized by José and the other guys, but I still found something to do. Being a “freezer expert” from my ice cream shops, I couldn’t ignore the heavy thick frost on the walls of the two freezers which contain all their meat and veggies, and out of which they were cooking delicious meals every day…they were both less than half full, so I didn’t ask and just started work defrosting and cleaning them…I wonder if they will notice? 🙂

My boyfriend Peter is moving these days, so I thought if I can not help him there to clean his old home and to arrange the new one, I may as well do a small bit of similar work here…not that I never have cleaned *his* kitchen… 🙂

So – tomorrow will be the day!!! (Hopefully…)

Hi,

what kind of safety device do you use? EPIRB or a simple PLB?

Right, there is a landing stripe on the north-east side of the lagoon! I wonder who is landing in this area? Thanks for the name oft the hut: Conaf hut, well…

Do you need some coordinates for the upstream paddling on the glacier river? It has a very confusing topography…
