Last night an electrical storm was blowing a strong wind and it was flashing all night, but brought no real rain, just a few drops and not much thunder. Still the wind went magically almost fully down from about 1-2 am, and it was calm under 10 knots all morning until 10 am. I should have paddled at night! This was the first calm (half) night! If it is the same tonight, I’ll start in darkness, actually a very nice moonlight. But we’ll see… I made at least my 30 km… a ridiculous distance for me. Another electrical storm with lightning came up and I decided to call it a day. I have to do my breaks on shore to really relax, out there it is too bumpy and I am getting blown back in no time. Three days to Punta Cardon to cross straight 30 km, or a bit longer to hop via the two jutting out sand spits. It depends on the wind…it may be generally calmer in the big bay.
Does anyone know a place to stay in Punta Cardón? The only option I’d have would be maybe the coast guard in Punta Fijo, if they invite me :-), but it is quite a way after the crossing to Punta Fijo. But it should be at least sheltered at the west coast, that I can paddle on!
Actually, it’s even now (5 pm) a bit calmer again, but I am done for today…two wild dogs were watching me on one of my shore breaks yesterday, but besides mosquitoes biting me and fat jelly fish bumping my kayak and a few pelicans, still not much other animal life to see. It’s quite boring water here! Well, I have to take what’s on the way…
