Freya is on the water again and her updates are once again delayed by two days for safety reasons. Likewise she has decided no longer to post her estimated landing spots in advance. Mostly because she expects way more landing options for the next stretch.

A few words on Freya’s communication gear:

Freya updates this site by sending emails with the help of a satellite phone and the rather excellent X-Gate software. These emails are distributed to her family, the authorities and this blog (the magic including the delay logic is handled by the Postie plugin). It is not practical for her to receive emails on the satellite phone (unbelievably low bandwidth) meaning tracking the comments here is not always possible although I try to relay the important ones to her.

When Freya is within mobile phone coverage she can use her regular phone and read her emails. This has turned out to work surprisingly well as the mobile phone networks in South America are quite extensive. The trouble however is that she never knows when and if there will be coverage.

The suspense –The anticipation — as we wait for the next update on this fantastic adventure.

Looking forward to reading the upcoming posts on this section.
Good Luck and Safe Paddling.

If FEARLESS: One Woman, One Kayak, One Continent was her last book, BREATHLESS: One Woman, One Kayak, One Continent & a Dicey Canal could be the next…

BREATHLESS waiting to hear how she got thru the canal. I will be AMAZED if they let her kayak thru the locks. They are Supertanker sized. The backwash in the 3 UP is impressive for a small boat, but that much water going OUT of the DOWN locks could suck a kayak straight thru, like a vast toilet ( sorry to sound rude but that is the reality)
So yet again Freya has us gripped by her adventures. !

I hope all has worked out well for her being able to paddle the canal and truely complete her circumnavigation around South America. We understand the need for the delay, all in the interest of her safety. Thanks for all your help in her adventure Peter. I know she doesn’t know me from anyone, but as just as another follower, but I have,in my mind, grown close to Freya in following her so closely every day and enjoying the adventure so much.I hope I’m not imposing or overposting, just very much enjoying keeping up with her.

The most important thing is that Freya is safe, and able to do the paddling she so loves. So I shall curb my curiosity and wait (not so patiently, lol) like everyone else. Thank you for the information, Peter, so we won’t all worry.

Hugh, sorry don’t want to spoil the fun and spill the details. Have a nice weekend! /Peter

All good Peter, but is she paddling or portaging the P.C. — was there a steep fee? is it even possible by rule? — enquiring minds want to know…thanks!

Hej Peter, jeg går ud fra at Freya så er på vej gennem Panamakanalen? Det bedste ønsker til hende.
Hilsen herfra til dig
