I forgot to mention that yesterday we had to clear our corner of the beach we chose from a dead seal somehow…the poor guy was surely already quite stiff and rotten. Peter didn’t like to touch it, but we tied both of our launching strings on a flipper each, and were dragging the carcass about 100 meters further along the beach. where he was lying, a huge amount of maggots were probably not happy about their loss, but we were covering them quickly with lots of sand as they shouldn’t get the idea to crawl 50 m to the other side then…we are not carcasses!

The paddle over dead calm water, but with a bit of following wind and favorable current just across the bay went fast without much happening, besides it was quite HOT. Peter was frequently soaking his hat in the chilly water again and again to stay cool. At some point I was suggesting to him, thinking of my own soaking wet jelly crystals in my Blue Bandoo visor doing a great job of keeping my head cool , if he not rather should fish for a matching size jelly fish and let him suck on his bare skull, keeping him nicely cool under the hat… 🙂
He was looking at his Pisco coast guard hat, wondering why a hat used by a marine division, didn’t use a stainless steel middle button on the inside? Ahhhh, now I know where the rusty spot came from I always saw on your bare head!:-))

We were seriously thinking of trying to land on the unsheltered side of the headland, as the swell was so low and yesterday it was looking also so inviting easy…but again as we came closer the surf was more nasty than it was looking from the distance, and we rather opted to go fully around the beautiful rocky headland. A good decision! On Google earth it was looking like it was nasty surf until the base of the headland, but already the first small headland beach proved to be dead calm today! A perfect beach for us tonight! Real A-class! Dead calm on landing, remote and sheltered with high rocks from both sides, some rocks to keep the household clean on the back, not much trash around, it had even some firewood to be collected with some effort…

We happily landed and made camp, and were looking forward to another calm afternoon. We made a short walk on top of the cliffs, and had a great view over the next section of the beach, which was a wide sandy flat with small gentle rollers with also dead calm corners. A nice view!

I took my time to send out a few organization e-mails for my next section of the trip, and again tomorrow will be only a shorter day to Huanchaco! Nice to sleep in a bit…
