When I read the forecast for tomorrow with morning until noon low winds, afternoon- whenever this maybe – over 20 knots headwind from south,I guessed I should better get in as much distance today as possible to be finishing the lake section and Brazil overall tomorrow at the jetty of Santa Vitoria de Palmar as planned without fighting too much.
I woke for a pee at 4 am, and guessed why not getting up now and paddle a nice 1 1/2 hr in a calm bright full moon night? I am an early bird anyway, so guessed and done, and I enjoyed the full moon set with parallel sunrise at 6.45 h, and had bagged already 8 km at dawn. I chased up two capivari who are obviously night active animals. As I strictly followed my GPS, I was eventually already quite offshore when sun light came. It was low wind from the side, later no wind and dead calm water. Nothing exciting again, but good to cover distance.
I aimed to round the last long sand spit, although I was sensing a deep channel at the bottom of the spit making it an island.But my satellite image was not 100% clear, and from my starting point going straight it made no difference either going round the top of finding the maybe or maybe not existing channel at the bottom of the spit.It turned out that there *is*a deep channel! But it was not much distance added.
I paddled as long as I was down to mere 25kmleftfortomorrow, keeping me awake and motivated with singing loudly all my songs I know. Need to eat and sleep now!
