Highlights: Safe landing
Lowlights: Way too long day against the wind!
Launch: Low surf
Landing: Low surf
Pos: here
Loc: Praia do Sino
Acc: tent
Dist: 53,1 km
Start: 6:10 End:19:10

Rain almost all night, but I was feeling cozy and war. Some small rivers were running close to my tent down the beach, but didn’t really affect me.My neighbor campers up in the forest and on the rocks were all quiet.

Karel was forecasting some westerly headwind, but only up to 10 knots, this can’t be so bad…although I had a solid 50 km+ day to pass the long unsheltered beach and a 5 km rocky headland at the end. Or I would have to land on that dumping beach…let’s go! See how it goes…SLOW!

It was not only deadly boring, but the headwind, low with calm seas at the beginning, was unfortunately not listening to the fore cast and was after noon well over 15 knots with bumpy seas.I had already paddled hard all morning, now it was to paddle just a little harder to make still a reasonable speed. No real breaks, or I was running back wards. That’s sea kayaking! I considered for a while just to in in some lucky way and to hope tomorrow morning it would be calmer, but who knows if I would be trapped here on this steep beach?Toward the end, the dumper became lower, still not really trust worthy to make a good landing and launch next morning. So keep on paddling around the probably bumpy headland…

It was actually a forbidden area to paddle after the beach along the rocks, no wonder…it was bumpy, not too bad today and in the lower evening wind, but a small wreck sitting on the rocks said it all. I felt safe, just a bit dizzy going up and down and sideways from the reflection of the rocks. Hope the beach will come soon…there she was! Fat signs in red standing on the beach, and some huge yellow ugly rock painting:”Military Area!” Who gives a fucking shit at 7 pm after 13 hrs of paddling…no one to see, just some small fishing boats on the beach and an old hut in the corner, I want to land and to have my well deserved rest! So far all calm here…tomorrow will be easterly winds again, thank goodness or I would have a day off.

I think it sucks that anyone should be able to say stay off this beach.Maybe the Land beyond but the beaches of the worlds oceans should be there for all to use.Rest we.Safe Paddling.
