Harald and Roland, with his Ultralight plane

Pos: here
Loc: Qudico
Acc: Gina´s house
Dist: 0 km

I slept long and well in a nice bed, but waking with still a very sore body. Very high swell was forecast for the next days, so no problem to have a few days off for rest. Though it was beautiful sunny weather with low wind!

The next three legs until Talcaguano would be very sheltered landings, but the first one to Lebu is 80 km, the second one to Caleta Trana 60 km, and
the third one to Caleta Playa Blance another 60 km…60 km I can barely paddle in the day light left in these autumn days, and for the first 80 km leg I have to either start or land in darkness…not sure what I´ll fancy yet! But I assume I´d accept escort or help either on launching or landing.

I first did my usual gear check chores, before I jumped online. My own PC refused to restart though, and I had to use the MAC from Gina first, and then Harald brought another PC laptop. Thanks!

Some local canoe artwork!

Gina made a yummy original Italian Pizza for lunch, and we had Harald and his German friend Roland as a visitor as announced! Roland is the type of practical self made men with multiple professions wanting to learn more and more I really admire, eventually ending up buying land in Chile years ago and making a living as a probably well sized farmer, importer of motor bikes with guiding tours and whatever else.

Harald with one of his toys

He has many interests from horse and motor bike riding, flying ultralight planes, lately sailing, and I´m sure this won´t be the end of his activities… He came the 300 km distance today by flying his own one seater ultralight plane! Not a bad way and distance covered just to see an interesting woman… 🙂

....sorry it has only one seat!

...there are so many nice toys in the world!

...ready to go! (Not me though...)

We had many inspiring chats, and around 5 pm for sure I had to join Harald to drive Roland to the airfield close to Tirua to see him flying off! Just sorry this was only a one seater plane, as I wouldn´t have minded a short trip over the area…! His kamikaze like start and loop over the small air stripe was scary though…I was sea sick just from watching…

...strong as oxes!

On the way back, Harald stopped for me to take a picture of three local ox carts, still in the ancient way of transporting their stuff!
Amazing…but as we showed up like ¨tourists¨in a car only the younger guys were happy about a picture…the old man was rather shouting about a few $$ for the picture! If I´d have been approaching him with low means just coming in from the sea this may have been very different…

It was online work time at night, and I was already in the condition to stay up way past midnight to do my job…pictures hopefully follow tomorrow.

I totally agree with Jörg: Your reports on the trip from Bahia Nihue to Qudico, and your reception there, are just first rate!

Qudico on google earth looks like very graphic with a beauty beach. Unfortunately the humboldt-stream have to much cold water 🙁

Every time i´m glad about you have a right roof over your head. And with nice people around you, my feeling is much better.

Your last reports were again especially good and charming (…remember the hollow hand… 😉 )
