No paddling tomorrow!
The second night in a “real” bed gave a bit more good physical rest, although being in a noisy city we could sleep with open window in the fancy Miraflores district.
The hotel breakfast was great choice, and we indulged in fresh pineapples, scrambled eggs, good bread buns and a triple piece of lemon pie (me), and Peter in hot coffee, eggs, sausages and beacon with buns plus the final of a pancake with dulce de leche. All things we don’t get for breakfast on the water!!!
I just managed to do a few skype calls home this morning, before we got picked up at 9.30 am. We split our day this morning – Peter was working on his kayak, and I had three more TV interviews. Five by then! Not that the Peruvians aren’t interested in my trip…though I’m thinking the nation itself doesn’t do many sports in general.
Sometimes I’m wondering what a journalist knows about my trip before he starts asking – actually – I’m sensing – basically nothing. This morning one guy started his interview with “So you are the first woman who is paddling around the world???” Hey, I’m not paddling around “the world” (or is their horizon finished at the borders of South America???), and I’m the first “person” to circumnavigate South America. One of the next questions was how I like “cerviche” (raw fish Peruvian style) – yes, I’m getting it served every day in my kayak! What I know about Peruvian football… (my favorite past time! ;-( ) – and if there was anything happening on my trip…*ANYTHING*??? Daily I have exciting events…and what is the next continent??? Hahaha, there are five left then, one for each next decade of my life…
Really, the quality of the TV press interviews is a little different from what I am used to…don’t they want to know e.g. how many km per day I’m paddling? What I am eating on my trip? Or anything else which covers my day and effort on the water?
Another fancy lunch with many THULE people in another fancy Peruvian style restaurant as some kind of reward filled us up again to the limit!
The afternoon, we went to an Outdoor Show in Lima, where THULE had a small booth. They had made posters from my trip logo, and I was signing quite a few, taking pictures with dozens of people, and was smiling happily all the time…
We just had two hours at the hotel, when we had a date with Alexander and Michael with his wife from the German embassy. Another fancy place to eat – Peruvians know how to enjoy life! well, if you are living on the sunny side of Peru… Thanks for inviting us for dinner!!!
