In the car tuning business, nothing goes without branded beauties...(I mean the two outer ones 🙂 )

Pos: here
Loc: Playa Catarindo just behind Mollendo
Acc: tent
Dist: 0 km

Tomorrow:
Estimated landing: Caleta Quilca
Estimated starting time: Right after sunrise
Estimated landing time: Well before sunset

The morning was spent packing food, as we were simply too tired last night to even start. Though the body has a bit adjusted to 3300 m of above sea level, we couldn’t really call our schedule the last days “rest”…

At 9.30 am we got pick up by taxi to drive us to the GT Store where we loaded our kayaks on the company truck to drive into the mall for display while I’m doing my scheduled press conference.

The setup for the THULE press conference in the shopping center in Arequipa

They had prepared a nice location right at the mall entrance, but I’m sure the Peruvians living up here may have heard something about white water kayaking, but never had seen a sea kayak, which is as different from a white water kayak as moon from earth…

Quite a bunch of press people were attending for Arequipa being an inland city!

Still, there were three TV teams and a bunch of press people showing up, and Daniel, a local white water kayaker, did the translation of the interviews. Getting asked by the third team the third time the same questions, he already answered them in Spanish without even translating to me any more and waiting for my answer…good! Clever guy…thanks, Daniel! 🙂

Three TV stations were also present for special interviews

Thanks also to the hosting local licensed THULE dealer GT Store and to Claudia organizing this press conference! They also offered some nice food for the journalists, and I think everybody got interesting informations and went happily home.

We also decided to ask if it would be possible to organize that we could drive today already instead of tomorrow back to our last finish point in Caleta Catarindo, as we felt more like keeping on paddling than experiencing more of noisy city life! The contrast is just too much, if you love the peace and quiet on the sea…

We got a lift back organized, arrived just after darkness, and had to realize that our lovely quiet caleta with the peaceful sheltered campsite turned on Saturday night into a beach disco with lights all over, firework and hammering music until now and probably all night through… :-((((((((

We picked a camp spot on the other side of the beach, organized our things and are hoping to be able to catch a bit of sleep…

I think the main challenge in this continent is to escape the noisy music every where people are! Not that I don’t like music, but a peaceful quiet rest is crucial for our every day’s effort…
