My nice grassy camp on Isla Hoste/ Peninsula Dum on low tide

I slept long, with lots of rain in the morning, the wind already 15-20 knots out there in the Beagle Channel, showing some white caps. I chose my campsite yesterday with view out to the main channel, though sheltered from the wind, to make certain I’m right not to paddle…if I’m are staying in a sheltered bay and not seeing the white caps out there, I may be feeling guilty not paddle…

I am camping on a clean grassy spot – well, clean, after I played a lot of cow pat and duck shit golf yesterday, and throwing away a few wooden sticks. There is an estancia a bit further west, whose cows seem to know this beautiful grassy patch.

Amazingly, there were four hikers today passing near by at noon, I wonder where they were coming from! Probably a yacht anchoring somewhere, but fortunately they didn’t stop…I was busy, with nothing on inside the warm tent, painting another layer of epoxy resin on my bow of the kayak, which stuck under the outer tent to be sheltered from the occasional rain showers.

Earlier on, I eventually filled the bow with a few helmets full of water, and saw some water leaking out of a small hole through the freshly modeled kayak’s nose…Atilio told me to try it while it was at his house, but I thought this freshly modeled nose looks so good, it can’t be leaking…but it obviously did, catching that 1/2 liter of water yesterday, which was not very pleasant.

Another water test showed it eventually dry later, hope it proves to be dry on next day’s paddling as well.

The wind freshened up during the day to the forecast probably 25-30 knots, regarding the white caps out there I was happy not to paddle into the wind. With the wind, it may have been a fun ride!

Tomorrow will be (hopefully) low wind again, and I’ll continue to see the glaciers coming down to the north side of Isla Gordon! This will be a nice day! Hopefully there is not all day rain…

Btw., the computer started today on the second try…it’s a miracle…

I got your book delivered yesterday, but alas, I have not had time to read it yet. Soon!

Keep your hatches dry and hope you have following seas soon!

No 15,973 on the Amazon Books bestseller list and No 2 best seller in the sea kayaking category. I’m sure that will improve with a little time 😉
Even an endorsement from Bear Grylls!

Freya,
I just finished reading your book “Fearless”, what a great story an inspiration for sure. Glicker is a goood friend I met in a 1,000 race from Chi to NY. Joe was kind enough to autograph it for me.
The only problem is I read it in 4 days but alas a re-read is in order.
Thanks for the adventure and inspiration, great story, easy fun read. Highly recommended for everyone. I bought 5 just to share your story with friends. They cant borrow mine.
Be safe
