I had some struggle with getting fast internet, but eventually I got a phone connection from Juan and his computer. My own is a slow poke and not suitable for uploading pictures. The usual business session in the morning, until a big press conference was set by the Navy for 10-11 am.

I was ready to get going, but the conference was delayed to 1 pm now, and we meanwhile had a nice barbecue lunch with all the VIP’s with their families of the Navy of Buenaventura. The kids were enjoying the pool, the chef on the barbie was Capitán Delgado himself. We had as a starter pork ribs with crab meet on crackers, then finest thin steak pieces with corn/ cheese tortillas and a delicious guacamole, and as desert there were three whole grilled fish, stylishly wrapped in large banana leaves. We use expensive aluminium foil for this purpose…Here, everybody just scoops their forks into the large bowl of Guacamole, and picks the meat and fish right off the big plate. Who needs plates??

The press people eventually showed up at 4.30 pm after we were all well fed, but then they were about twenty people! Capitán Delgado was translating, and I told him after the second seperate interview he can give the answers himself as they are all the same questions… 🙂 – but we did a great team job. All were eventually happy after I was signing many cards and smiling endlessly and posing for many pictures.

...one more interview...

A big thanks to the Navy people to organize the press conference, and to host me today at this yummy barbecue – I think I ate enough to stock up for the whole week! It must have been a nice change for them instead of giving only interviews about how many drug runners they have seized again…

The boat houses look rather like airplane hangars to me!

I saw another two illegal one way submarines in the harbor, one metal one without engine which was towed behind a strong motor boat, and another one out of fibreglass with an engine of its own. There have caught over the last years about thirty of those…most of them are now stored in the Navy base in Bahia Malaga. I learned that the main drug smuggling season starts about end of February, until maybe October so I had perfect timing just being here before every one is out there chasing smugglers. They do mostly set the the drug traffic boats out in big numbers, so that the Navy simply has a hard time catching all of them, and if only one of them makes it safely over the boarder, the profit is already gigantic. The submarines are usually revealed by the drugs people who feel undervalued, and soon the Navy has a big fish on their hook!

I quickly went food shopping at night, setting out over the bay again with a motor boat shuttle.
