Pos: here
Loc: Punta de Tigua
Acc: Navy ship “Cabo Tiburon”
Dist: 44,7 km
Start: 6:15 End: 15:35

An early start, a fast ride to my spot – this is what I need! Thanks, guys! The wind was a bit stronger today, though still eventually north west, but I went almost due north. So speed was overall slower, but until 3 pm good enough. I also noticed coming to the end of the crossing of the big Golf a current going in – against me – opposite to the southern end, where I had it nicely with me going in! But you can not always have it perfect. I was already more blessed with the wind
on this end than I was expecting!

Once I finished the crossing, I was nicely hugging the coast, paddling very close. Once I had a call with Peter, and instead of getting pushed into the mangroves I rather jumped out in the shallows, with nice sandy ground, and walked my kayak while I had a lovely chat! I am allover efficiently German… 🙂

I also took a quick swim, but the water is so warm here it is not even pleasant any more. I paddled again all day with open spray deck, and fortunately the breeze against me kept me more or less cool. The houses along the coast were now really neat, being local relatively simple ones, or even some hotels. It just looks all more friendly once the sandy beaches turn white and the water accordingly deep turquoise! I really enjoyed that paddle close tot he coast, looking again into people’s backyards, and thinking where I’d be making camp if I had to! But the heat makes me even appreciate another long ride back to the ship, this time it would be anchoring in the northern corner of the Golf. Not that it was there yet when we arrived…we had to wait about half an hour again on a quite artificial looking hotel island,
surrounded with concrete. They probably simply started to move the ship from the old southern Golf anchorage only once we arrived…but no complaints.

I wrote some emails meanwhile, but would have rather already showered and changed and relaxed. But today I stopped early due to the strong headwind, so it was time enough. My trick now to put on my warm surfskin paddling pants and Kokatat Gore-Tex Anorak helps me to stay warm on the ship ride.

I will paddle through a tiny connection channel tomorrow, to avoid to have to paddle around that long jutting out peninsula. Clever, clever! 🙂

I am really enjoying the theme/design of your web site. Do you ever run into any web browser compatibility issues? A handful of my blog visitors have complained about my blog not working correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any solutions to help fix this problem?

Wow that was odd. I just wrote an incredibly long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say wonderful blog!

My programmer is trying to persuade me to move to .net from PHP. I have always disliked the idea because of the expenses. But he’s tryiong none the less. I’ve been using Movable-type on a variety of websites for about a year and am anxious about switching to another platform. I have heard excellent things about blogengine.net. Is there a way I can import all my wordpress posts into it? Any help would be really appreciated!

It´s good, to read that you feel good. Longer time ago: What´s about your skin ? I hope the mosquito´s don´t bite you anymore.

Hallo Freya! I’m so inspired when I read about your paddling.
Maybe I will buy a Freyakayak and paddle from Norway to Finland or something like that.
If I do – it’s your fault :).
Do you recommend the Freyakayak?

That shortcut you plan on taking is the Canal Del Dique; it’s a thruway for barges, and pretty murky. It will put you right at the outskirts of Cartagena. If you paddle around that peninsula instead, you will be rewarded with beautiful white sandy beaches, coral reefs, turquoise waters and a much nicer landscape overall; you could even zip by the Archipelago Islas del Rosario, also a pretty sight. Whatever route you take, have fun.

Sounds like a pleasant day’s paddling; glad of it! Hope you managed a pic or two of the white beaches and turquoise water. Can’t wait to see it!
