A gray drizzly day...

Pos: here
Loc: Yacht Club Coquimbo
Acc: tent
Dist: 55,8 km
Start: 8:20 End: 19:20

Tomorrow:
We will have a day off in town!

The noise of the night was – rain! But just a bit of a drizzle. Fortunately, the motor bike guys went outwith the small fishing boats in the night, so no party noise…

It was supposed to be a calm day with low swell, and so it was. Even the sun showed up a bit! It was easy paddling toward the headland which marked the entrance to the wide bay of Coquimbo/ La Serena. It was breaking far out quite a bit, so we gave it a wide berth, wethought…

But the wide berth rather made us viewing already the headland in the far distance – Coquimbo! Why paddling into the bay…conditions were almost dead calm, and we felt fresh to do 55 km for the whole day and to arrive before sunset!

We were aiming for the Yacht Club in Coquimbo, as we had no personal contact here. The crossing of the bay was easy, though at some point Peter and I were eventually arguing about a few camp details…likehome…I’m the perfectionist who likes a clean sand free tent and organized gear, and Peter doesn’t care that much if there is still sand on the bags oro n the feet, and where he pack which things inwhich bags…

But we sorted it out somehow, and kept on paddling in peace… 🙂

There were many small fishing boats coming at last light out of the entrance to the beautiful natural harbor of Coquimbo, and we could easily find the Yacht Club. A friendly care taker showed us the showers, and they were even (almost) hot! We took also the chance to wash a few clothing pieces right under the shower, as we couldn’t see any laundry machine nearby. But I’m used to that…

We could put up our tent on a nice lawn between some small boats and yachts on trailers, and we spotted even a few kayaks! Mostly sit on tops, and we doubted they are going out far…

The yacht club had a fancy looking restaurant, but which was completely empty this night…still we dared to order some nice grilled salmon with fried potatoes, which was actually quite tasty! We started to plug in our electronics, and would be able to use the lounge site of the restaurant all night, if we would want to! Surely with wifi also…just what we need tomorrow.

We decided we will have a day off on Friday, despite it is beautiful weather and low seas…:-( but we have to do a few shopping chores, send some sureplus gear back to Cristian, dry our just freshly washed clothing and check on other pieces of gear and on the boat tomorrow. It is already late tonight!

Glad to hear you had a nice day paddling. Its good that you got to eat a real restaraunt meal and wash some clothes and shower. That makes one feel good and rested well.I was fortunate enough to run up on a nice restaraunt on my last river trip as well and charge the electronics. It will be good to have a day off in fair weather to tend to your needs.Enjoy.Safe paddling. dann viel Spass.
