One of those floating caves from the salmon industry washed ashore

Pos: here
Loc: Isla Chaculay
Acc: tent
Dist: 49 km
Start: 8:30 End: 18:15

Not really much to tell today – rain until 10 am, then calm and dry, but low clouds. I paddled first close to the shore, which is always much more interesting and entertaining than offshore, but still had to do then a 14 km crossing to Isla Churrecue on calm water.

The boat traffic is increasing, last night I heard already three boats in the darkness, and today were maybe 8-10 different boats passing me, smaller and larger, including the big Navimag ferry just across my campsite. Didn’t know they were going this way! The rest may be serving the numerous salmon sites, and may be fishermen.

I stayed strong today, though I stopped for a quick break on a beautiful beach and rock site at the Islotes Herrera around 4 pm, I decided to push on for at least another hour…no stopping before 5 pm any more, if possible. Beaches seem to be enough here in this area, though you never know.

About 13 km left to Puerto Aguirre, I will quickly check for the shop if there is something available worth stocking my food up, but won’t stay in “town”. I don’t really need pasta or rice or mashed potatoes for dinner, just snacks and maybe oats are getting a bit short. And I still have the hope for maybe a fresh apple…we’ll see.

na freya, bald kannst du also vitamine bunkern.an apple a day, keeps the doctor away.- gut gesagt, wenn man nur selten welche kaufen kann.aber du bist auf einem guten weg.

stripbuilder is John Craun’s watertribe name because he makes the most beautiful wooden boats and paddles… probably one almost worthy of someone like Freya Hoffmeister — paddletothesea

Karen

Hello Freya,
You are doing great! Trust your body when you want to stop and rest. When you doubt yourself, this is when accidents happen.
As far as finding the landscape boring, this is just a reflection of your mind state, try to look at it differently. Change your perception. Rob and I have been going out for paddles as we travel around Florida. Today while paddling I heard myself say oh I’ve seen a lot of mangroves. As I paddled my appreciation came up again and could see there beauty and also there different shapes. A while back when I stared to work at ta spa I was turning over rooms. I told a friend that I really didn’t like to clean toilets. What was I doing after seven years post sec. She told me to change my perception. So I did looking at there shape wondering how they functioned. Soon it didn’t bother me. Then went on to be a spa therapist.
Hope this helps.
Scott what was John’s EC name? I was at check point 2 early on in the race saw Justanothersailer check in. Have been watching the race as well.
Everyone is an inspiration. It feels so good to get on the water if only for a few hours. So glad to be alive!
Freya hope you get that crunchy apple!
Karen
