Long day!

Pos: here
Loc: across Oxford
Acc: tent
Dist: 38,6 km
Start: 6:45 End: 16:50

A good sleep in the wilderness, the moon was so bright, I even also put on my sleeping mask! A wet launch through moderate surf, after a while the waves went down and I paddled again across one of those endless wide dreaded mud banks. The tide went lowest at noon, and I was stuck for a short while. The rest of the time was just about deep enough to paddle, but the mud sucks, literally, the kayak is slower than on deep water. Many inviting beaches to see in the distance from wide offshore, but none of them in reach at low tide.

The sea ground changed again to hard surface with some surf on top, then it was deep water with waves washing up high on a steep river beach. No landing there. The last good beach was at 3 pm, too early yet. I had marked one beach in 45 km overall distance, fortunately I found this forest beach with calm mud water before on an hour before high tide. It was just already a long day, but relatively “fast” with 4 km/ h average, at least not 3 point something as usual…

I am actually ready for a day off. The next three days are stronger headwinds, but tomorrow still the best. I may paddle another 25 km and hope to be able to land at higher tide where I looked at the sat image being some beach

Greetings Freya,
Pleased to see your posts again. I am learning alot from reading your adventures. Being new with only 200+ miles of paddling I listen very well to your writings and water wisdom. Thanx , Remember be bold but think safety….

Hi Freya I have been following your progress through your daily postings and on Google Maps. It doesn’t look like a whole lot of fun. I was surprised to see how shallow the water is for such a long distance. You are my idol. Best wishes for a safe journey
