Good to sleep in a little today! Though i woke as usual at 4am, I put my sleeping mask on, earplugs in and dived back into darkness and soundless sleep. My body and mind need it!

I checked on the progress of my kayak repair, the guy had already started yesterday with sanding, drying with a heat gun and filling the first layer of mastics or whatever it was. Today, the whole thing got covered with fiber glass mat and epoxy resin out of my stock, I hope I can get some new bottles tomorrow. The search for that this after noon was not successful yet. And who knows if this is the last repair on this section? We need to fill the kayak with water tomorrow to see where it still may be leaking or not. thanks for the repair job, guys!

Sure I was also working online as usual and calling home via skype. Some small food shopping, combined with a tour through Santa Marta filled the whole afternoon. Santa Marta itself is not at all as touristic as Cartagena, the beaches before were way more fancy looking. This city is rather quite “South American” to me, including chaotic driving and mostly old fashioned tiny shop outlets. We drove to the one and probably only mall to search for the resin, but the mall doesn’t make the character of the city, this could be anywhere else on the world. I rather enjoy driving through the real city, although many corners were quite poor and dirty. But this is where the real South American old life was, including still some donkey or horse drawn working carriers.

But old meets new everywhere, even in the poorest quarters the have cell phones and selling minutes on every corner. A satellite dish is the state of art, but I rather think watching TV all day doesn’t really add to getting more active!

Thanks to my two coast guard guys to drive me around! You are really looking very nicely after me!

Thanks for the link Dolly– I actually have a copy of Freyas book “Fearless” and enjoyed it immensely.
My only regret is that until she had actually completed her around Australia trip I was not aware of it.
As a boatbuilder living in Port Lincoln SA I would have been happy to have offered my support while she was in our waters and note that she overnighted in Fishery Bay.

Glad your body/mind is getting rest. Perhaps some rejuvenation. You can find that by exploring the space in your body while being grounded.
I can imagine your cry to the universe as you, your boat and the Navy were in stress the other day. It is a reminder of how powerful nature can be. It is also teaching about impermanance. All compounded things are subject to decay.
Thank you to the people who are repairing your kayak. Thank you for the Navy for being so committed. Thank you Nicolas for your contribution.

Dolly

did the navy boys take any photos of that super rough day? sounds hectic and then some…

So I take it the kayak didn’t fare so well being dragged over the bow of the seasick navy boys boat. Bad for the boat but at least you’ve found someone who knows how to repair your baby.Funny about the city using donkeys and pushing cell phone minutes. Thanks to the coast aurd guys for taking good care of you on your off days. Safe paddling.
