Loc: Golfo de Morrosquillos
Acc: Navy ship “Cabo Tiburon”
Dist: 59,3 km
Start: 6:40 End: 17:00

The first night I was almost freezing again! The girls had turned down the air condition to an actually nice cool temperature, if I’d have had my proper sleeping bag! So my blanket and silky blanket barely did the job, and I fished for my sweatshirt in the middle of the night. My mattress on the floor was a bit too short, and I had to be creative with my own sleeping pad to make an extension. It is not easy to sleep almost every night in a different location and conditions! But I almost slept too long this morning, with ear plugs and sleeping mask on.

But all good. The ride to my spot was fast on smooth water, and being afloat at 6.40 am was all right.

The small houses and farms continued for a while, looking more or less simple or more solid. They are mostly built with palm tree roofs, but the walls are good concrete. At some point I heard a strange noise, sounding like it was right beside me, but I just forgot how a donkey brays! Strange!

The low cliffs eventually gave way to a long beach, but narrow and dark color. No reefs, but low calm surf everywhere. The beach also changed the houses, now they were surely owned by richer people, or even used as holiday houses or hotels. It was quite interesting to paddle close to shore and to look into people’s back or rather front yards. Every one waved friendly back, all looked inviting! But I eventually also crossed the big beach bay, and passed a wide river
mouth area with dark brown water. Wood and roots and leaves are floating around, and it is amazing how the current first blocked me, then pushed me along. I almost didn’t want to stop paddling crossing the Golfo de Morrosquillos! Easy gained kilometers, paddling now 7-8 km/h. But I had my deadline of 5 pm, as I was not sure how long the ride
back to the ship would take today.

The coast guard crew changed, a new smaller boat was on duty now. But my kayak stored on it all right, and the ride back, though 50 min, was smooth on reasonably calm water.

Shower, update, dinner, preparing my food for tomorrow, reading 20 min, that’s all at night!

Glad to read that this day and night have been more comfortable than previous days/nights. It also sounds as though you no longer have to paddle at least 2 km out away from the shoreline for safety.
