Stayed a day at the farm house
Pos: here
Loc: Ilha do Bailique
Acc: tent inside house

As the guys told me to leave today only “after” the Pororoca came through, I rather liked to believe them that this made sense… it was supposed to be around 10 am or such. I had already packed my bags early, and was waiting impatiently. The guys had all left besides one man with a boat coming atnight at 4 am, why so early? They made quite some noise, and sleeping in was not practical.

When the dreaded wave didn’t come around 11 am, I decided it was too lateto leave now and to make a reasonable distance into the deep water area and rather to rather stay one day. My body could use it, as my muscles were still sore from that endless brace at night. Tomorrow the water level and wave would be even lower, I’d leave with first light and would be already in deep water if the Pororoca would still be noticeable.

I had just called Peter to relax a bit and to tell him my decision, when the wave did eventually arrive in the river here at 11:20 am, small and tiny. Tomorrow it will be all right!

I unpacked my bags again, put up my tent and went back to relaxing. Good decision to stay one more day and to rather leave early tomorrow!

The guys came back with the boat around 4 pm, two new ones adding up to 7 men now. They brought a bottle of “Schnapps” which went around once, but fortunately found it’s spot on the kitchen shelf beside another without being emptied too much. Thank goodness…

We just had fun later taking silly pictures for the guys with my camera,as they amazingly had a memory card but no camera and obviously a way of watching the pictures in their village later.

I was watching them doing their household business, including cooking on an open fire, butchering an iguana for dinner, and using some kind of press to gain some jam/ juice from some sour berries. All very interesting how simple bush farm life is working here! They also had an old noisy generator next to the outhouse, but used it only to operate the berry press and a few lights at night. No TV or fridge or gas stove here. A lot of animals like buffaloes, horses, pigs and dogs, fishing nets to maintain, but obviously a lot of work and also guy’s fun. What a life! They are staying at this quite new station house for 14 days before they get back to their village and other guys are coming.
