trip days left: 52
Loc: Santa Marta
Acc: Sonia and Jaimies house

The same weather today, but around 5 pm it cleared up and I went out for a walk after a day working online. I had to see the sea from a closer distance. No way I’d like to be out there! The sea is full of spray, and the breakers on the cliffs around the headland were really impressive. The wide surf belt on the wild and wide southern beach was frightening for me, still one single kite surfer played with the 6-8 breaker lines rolling in. I would not want to be on the outer first ones…I was watching him for a while, thinking this is crazy. But I also saw the inner beach surf lines being really small but wide, just in case going through the whole surf out is frightening, one could maybe paddle there! At least here on this beach. But the sea must go down first.

The whole village is trying to live on tourism with few fisher men, but tourism basically happens only a few weeks around x-mas and carnival. Now many of the small restaurants and bars are closed, “house to rent” signs are every where. The better looking holiday houses are mostly empty. No real walkways along the cliffs or up to the light house, which is military area. The real gem are the surf beaches here!

Hopefully the sea will calm her fury for you soon, and let you be on your way. Great Pictures, thanks for sharing the village and culture with us.
