Got my new kayak!

Pos: here
Loc: Caraballeda
Acc: Antonio’s and Lucy’s apartment

Antonio and Lucy drove me after a yummy home made breakfast through the crazy traffic of Caraballeda/ La Guiara to the office of the custom agency. A friendly employee named Douglas was already able to take us to the real customs, were it took a lot of waiting, another employee named Efrain and a bunch of office workers to talk to and to hand out cards to get the necessary paperwork signed. It basically took all morning, but only when we were back again to the custom’s agent office and the boss who is enthusiastic about my trip -Wilhelm – showed up himself, things seemed to really move and he promised to send the kayak in the afternoon to Antonio’s apartment! Thanks very much to Wilhelm from his custom agency ATM to shoulder all necessary expenses, whatever they were! I got my new kayak, without even paying handling fees! It is great to have friends working to help me on my trip! Thanks again.

The afternoon I spent with the usual online work, not making much progress as being annoyed with no working computer, headset and GPS. Apart from the latter, things worked at some point again, but it seems I killed my last spare GPS just trying to upload my tracks and have to get a new one in Caracas. Those nasty electronics! I hate it when they are not working as they should and get really cranky.

The kayak finally got really delivered at 7 pm, we had to saw it out of it’s metal cage, unwrapped it and on the first glance all seems to be ok. I will take a closer look and work on it tomorrow! Thanks to my sponsor Point 65  for sending me a new kayak!
But first we have tomorrow to drive to Caracas to the German Embassy to do some press work, to shop a new GPS and food, to meet other kayakers, and to do whatever, probably all in dense crazy traffic and bad city air. Not sure if there will be time at all to work on the old and new kayak… but I have more time to stay in the capital of Venezuela!

Thanks to Antonio and Lucy to feed me well and for really looking so nicely after me and spending all their time on me. What would I do without my many local helpers!

My skin is healing well, just needs more time indoors. Lots of more work to do!

All is not lost if you don’t get everything you need in Caracas. It might be available in Port of Spain, especially if you give advance notice. After that it will be a long stretch with no stores or groceries. Let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
