Staying in an artist’s guest house

Pos: here
Loc: Rio Caribe
Acc: Francisco’s guest house
Dist: 26,2 km
Start: 5:15 End: 12:00

The afternoon and night was all quiet, no late beach visitors. Well, I once got scared to death when the many vultures occupying the trashy beach were arguing noisily about a piece of dead fish. I launched in first light, already 15 knots on my nose. A short day was ahead, still why can’t it be at least in the morning quiet? It went up and down all morning, but basically it was as usual 12-15 knots headwind. There will be some more distance to cover like that…

I crossed the bay of Carupano in the distance, not much happening. My goal was this jutting out peninsula with the dominant island at the end, behind this I knew to be Rio Caribe. It is already a problem to text my hosts about my arrival time in the headwind, but I manage. No phone calls! A boat came out about 3 km before the village, some reporter wanting to check how far I was. They came again the last 500 m, this time armed with TV camera and a bunch of others. Can’t say I really liked it here, as I rather paddle incognito until Trinidad. But it was like it was, and my arrival party of all local fishermen was at least applaudingly friendly. Thanks!

Eduardo, the friend of my host Francisco, organized the pick up to the guest house via truck. All well, thanks! I also got received by Edgar Lopez, who came here by bus from Puerto Cabello to bring me a few things from Peter whichwho he had just met on his trip to Europe. Thanks very much Edgar! We both got a room each in Francisco’s beautiful guest house, which was lovingly decorated with old furniture and many handcrafted and tasteful things. A very beautiful place! My room had a king size antique bed, plus two side beds. I took the smaller one, feeling lost in the huge one and being better under the air condition. Thanks to Francisco for hosting me here!

I worked on my equipment all afternoon, there is always something to repair to to prevent from breaking one day at the wrong time…like lueing my sandals, changing the backrest, changing three more zipper sliders on my tent, reinforce by sewing all half or fully broken some tent guy line loops…
