Australian contacts wanted!

My OZ-trip planning is proceeding on now, after it was a bit on a hold due to some excessive working time…

Actually, this was part of the trip preparations, too, getting some stuff in my shops updated and running.

I do have a pile of 125 maps 1:250.000 at home now, given by Geoscience Australia. Thanks a lot! OZ becomes a realistic shape, nosing ino the maps now, and re-reading Paul Caffyn’s Australian book and other shorter or longer OZ-trip-reports. The maps will be sitting on my front deck all day the next year!

I would be more than happy about some contact adresses in all the different corners of Australia!

What you could help me with?

Well, on such a trip a hot shower ist the most appreciated thing every other day – plus some “driving around” help for a quick resupply with food and water – and an hour or so for some office work on an internet-computer. All in exchange for some great first hand stories at the dinner table!

So if you like to jump in yourself, or if you know someone who knows someone who’s mother’s grand-auntie-in-law’s daughter lives on the far end of Australia – any helpful adress is welcome! Especially in the remote Northern/ North-Western area. This won’t necessarily mean I’m able to see all of you guys, as my trip time is limited and I have to push on hard, but for just in case-planning and some occasional rest days it’s nice to be not alone on the continent!

Thanks for dropping me an e-mail !

I was thinking about doing the trip with a full-support crew, especially to fill up more the publicity needs of my main sponsor “epic kayaks“, but decided my independence (as I’m used to) is more important to me than the possibly nightly convenience and the more extensive media contacts. I may have some escort temporarly by a land crew or another paddler, but basically I enjoy being on my own.

Hi Freya,

Your trip sounds fantastic. We have been living up in the North West in Broome for the last ten years running a kayaking business up here. If you need any help up this way drop us a line. If we cant help with the more remote areas we may know someone who can especially up in the Kimberley or Pilbara coastline. Its an amazing wild part of the world up here. Good luck with the planning and look forward to following your progress. There will be a beer in the fridge in Broome waiting.

I live at Mooloolaba in Queensland the sunshine state 90 kms north of Brisbane your welcome at our place. You can paddle into Mooloolaba Beach or Harbour with 50 metre portage. I’m a member of the Queensland Sea Kayak Club and Queensland canoeing also a Sea Instructor. I’m sure many members will help you out, just give your trip plan out early so people can get organised. You have State Sea Kayaking clubs (say New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia etc) all I believe will be helpful in your paddle, also the National Body Australia Canoeing which can link you to many if not all kayaking clubs in Australia.
