Day 197, Sunday, 02.08.2009

The days paddle, still inside the quiet reef waters, took me around Point Edgar into Norwegian Bay, where the ruins of a whaling station were located.

But I didn’t feel like taking my time to paddle into the bay…rather kept on pushing around Point Cloates.

Headwinds were coming up, and I kept close to the shore in Jane Bay, knowing I am going even some 100 meters north again.

I pulled into shore in a safe distance to the next cars, but later one car felt like camping quite close to me! Oh well, there is space on the beach for everyone!

My nightly “sport” was climbing the highest dune again for my this time successful nightly cell phone connection!

Text message from Freya via satellite phone:

22.42 113.41, Jane Bay.  60 km 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Another beautiful easy day inside the crystal clear quiet reef. Offshore there are crashing dumpers!

Blake, it seems like the Pacific Northwest has stolen most of our usual Western Pennsylvania sunny warm summer days and sent us all your cloudy grey rainy ones this year! Not a very fair trade, but I am glad to hear you are making good use of them out there. Enjoy the bounty while you can: I plan a visit to Seattle in September and (as is my usual luck on holiday) will likely bring the chilly wind and rain along with me. 🙁

But, as long as it’s sunny in Oz, we can all enjoy it through Freya’s adventure.

Well done so far Freya. You are doing a great job. Did you realise that the start of the Zuytdorp Cliffs section is only 400km away now.

Best of luck from matt.

Hi Freya!

You doing really good distances every day. I agree with Kerry. I´m also looking forward to your next rest days. 🙂

Hi Freya,

Kerry says it right. Your latest trip logs have us yearning for cool, clear and sunny paddling. Here in Seattle, we have had a all time high of over 100 degrees F. Kayaking is a cool sport on hot summer days here. I hope you enjoy your ride and accomplish your historical goal! That is a solo and unsupported trip around Austrailia within a year!

You’re making good smooth progress and tempting us with visions of the crystal blue seas and exotic wildlife. Here in the Eastern US, where we’ve been paddling between grey skies and rain-muddied waters, we’re looking forward to your next rest days and the latest updates and photos on the blog!

Go, Freya! We’re with you in our dreams….
