Wide wet beach to the rescue!

I cleaned myself in the water as it ran in, rolled up pad and fly, and started with a walk until the water was deep enough to sit and paddle. Maybe after 1 km the water became naturally deeper – did I just miss the “exit” out of this trap at night by just a few kilometers? But I always wanted to try this sleeping style, and saw it worked well. It would have been more tricky if I’d be sitting on soft mud…
I paddled toward the slow running low breaker zone, not to get stuck gain in still darkness. I would reach my marked beach just after sunrise. First I had to pass another wide major river mouth, all with no current, just with a lot of fresh water. I passed a huge tower with a platform box for people in the wide river mouth entrance, what for is that one used? I doubt there would be so much traffic in here they’d need a pilot station out here? It didn’t really look accessible from the water either…strange piece. Only one lit fishing boat was out here in the night, once before me, then behind me without seeing me.

When it became daylight, I saw my salvation: A wide flat dark beach with green grassy spots, perfect for me to land on the morning high tide. I was still not sure if I would be feeling fit enough to just keep on going, but my skin eventually told me to rest. The constant soak of, even worse, fresh water, took it’s toll on some spots. It was also a place where fishermen rest at hight tide, with a few netting poles. But no one there, good. Still I found a “lucky pig”, a plastic money band and real old cow pads, maybe this area has human population in the hinterland?
The day was calm with mixed weather. I used the hammock tarp as an additional sun shade on top of the tent, perfect. Fortunately few bugs here, so I could have a real shower with my new salt water shampoo. But I had a hard time to get this stuff off again with the muddy salt water, although quite sweet here! Only with my precious fresh water did it rinse off all right. Not sure about the quality and use…
The next area will have a bunch of islands and many beach spots I marked. Should be all right, if I time it on high tide and don’t overdo it again…No beach access here on low tide!

The platform may have a touristic purpose since there are Orinoco tours, and it might be a viewing platform for bird-watchers. There are daily tours of the Caroni swamp in Trinidad at dusk to view the roosting of the scarlet ibis and cattle egrets. The transformation of the green mangrove as it sprouts red and white “flowers” is spectacular. Take care.
