You think why do I need a 3-person tent? You may have read it somewhere already between the lines or have heard me talking about that option – I’ll be paddling the next four months together with my Danish partner Peter Unold!

We made that decision to form a team also now on the water on my circumnavigation after Peter was already so much involved with the IT-logistics of the trip and very helpful to me inso many ways.

Peter was actually one of my very first paddling coaches and trip leader on my very first week-end sea kayak trip around Samsoe in the Danish archipelago in 2003. He paddled himself around Denmark and Sweden and other multi-days trip as a leader like ten time the legendary round Samsoe-trip :-). We didn’t lose contact fully over the years, but it was only in 2010 when the spark jumped over…

Now we had the tough decision to make which of the range of the allover-great Hilleberg-tents would be our mutual new home for two for the next four months! The two fully freestanding 2-person tents Allak and Staika I used myself so far for me and my luggage, I felt would be too small to also host my 1, 94 m tall broad-shouldered tent-companion having the very likely possibility of eventually killing each other in a too small tent…

So we were also looking into the rock-solid 3-person Saivo and spacious classical 3-person tunnel-tent Keron 3. Despite the Keron 3 is not being free-standing, we think the tent sites the next four months will provide enough space and reasonable surface to anchor the Keron 3 and chose the spacious tunnel tent. The tiny rocks or narrow beach camps I was putting my tent up in Patagonia are hopefullyin the past now…Honestly, I’d not take the Keron 3 on the section from Cape Horn up to Valparaiso! There was simply no space for such a luxury.

Thanks a lot to the Hilleberg family for providing us again with a high-end tent out of their range! There is nothing but a Hilleberg! They are really the high-end 5-star+ tents on the market! Any size, any shape…and for sure I chose a *red* one again!
